Job Growth Last Year Was Far Worse Than We Thought. Here’s Why.

Revised data show the U.S. economy generated far fewer jobs in 2024 and 2025 than was initially estimated

The government has dramatically lowered its estimates for how many jobs the economy generated over the past two years.

The Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday said that the U.S. added just 1.5 million jobs in 2024, well below the previously estimated 2 million. In 2025, it said the labor market added only 181,000 jobs, versus the previously estimated 584,000.

Two separate revisions are mainly at play.

No wonder they tried to put a lid on the jobs report. They've also successfully killed Gallup presidential polls after almost 90 years. I wonder why? ❓

What really makes Trump's 2025 job numbers look anemic is that in Biden's last year---2024---Non-Farm Job Growth was 2,230,000.

Now that's 1232% better than Trump.

If one uses Trump's 'drug price math' on it in reverse, Biden's job growth would have to fall 73,569% to equal Trump's.

Also, given a day to think about it, a good many Wall Street analysts think the January 2026 number of 130,000 is absolute nonsense and will re revised down sharply at some later date, when it can be hidden behind something like a new Dow high or an invasion of Iran.

Even if not pressured to do so, employees in the Trump Administration know that telling the truth and doing one's job gets you fired. It happened to the former chief at the BLS when she presided over a bad number. It happened to FBI agents who had investigated the insurrectionists of 6 January 2021, and it happened to DoJ prosecutors who presided over trials of the arrested 6 January terrorists. It evened happened in the intelligence community when two career agency employees were fired because they issued an intel report that contradicted Trump's world view, which is based on his willfully ignorant gut feel.

One could thus opine the January +130,000 was just kind of a Potemkin number meant to mask the massive downward revisions for 2025. I guess in Trump world another name for that would be "alternative facts".

Well, while the numbers in 2024 still look far better than those in 2025, 2024 was also revised down to about $1.5 million.

Interesting report by NBC news on how hard middle class Americans are being hit by Trump economics. Very sad and telling.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/americans-sell-plasma-inflation-middle-class-expenses-economy-rcna258390

Middle-class Americans are selling their plasma to make ends meet

Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.

Soon it won't be the jobs that will lack in America,

It will be the labour as there will be no more illegals left to sell drugs on the streets or to do the lower paid menial jobs that the locals do not wish to entertain.

Because it's only or predominantly illegal aliens who sell drugs at the retail level?

The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.3% in January 2026, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and other sources such as Trading Economics and FRED. This marks a decrease from 4.4% in December 2025 and reflects a continued trend of relatively low unemployment,

Barack Obama's average annual unemployment rate during his presidency (2009–2017) was 7.41%, according to data from Investopedia.

Neo liberalism has hollowed out blue collar workers and is now feeding on the middle class.

Obama above 5% the whole time. Terrible job. It went up due to gfc and fell back down after gfc. Obama actually did less than Bush.

Bush had lower numbers than Obama. How embarrassingly for Obama. Can't beat Bush.

4.3% is bad for the 4.3%, and it’s not getting any better.

Better than UK and europe.

The UK unemployment rate was 5.1% in the three months to November 2025, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), marking its highest level since March 2021 and unchanged from the previous period. This rise was driven by an increase in unemployment across multiple duration groups, with total unemployment rising to 1.84 million people. The rate has increased from 4.4% a year earlier, reflecting a weakening jobs market
