GFC

Featured Replies

It ended mid 2009. Obama left office in Jan 17. Unemployment was above 5%. Not once did it fall under 5% during his 8 years.

Why does the left defend this clown? He spent 8 years lying about climate.

The math doesnt go up, so lets see in his end of the term, shall we? And you blaiming Obama for the situation, and not GWB, is quite remarkable and shallow if there is blaim to be handed out I mean. World crises and unforseen happenings, do have an impact on world economics, so?

And what Trump is doing now, wait and see

2025: Prior estimate of 584,000 jobs cut to 181,000 (down ~898,000) So the economy essentially flatlined in Trump’s first year!

Going back 10 years or more to point out an unemployment rate under a previous administration sounds like sheer desperation.

NB

Obama came into office during "the financial crisis" and drove unemployment down from 10% to 4.7%

Drove as in car? Obama never had low employment. Trump got it down to 3.5%.

UE was 4.2% prior to GFC. Obama never got close to that. The GFC ended mid 09. He left office in Jan 17. He was hopeless!

Since President Donald Trump returned to the White House:

  • Job growth slowed, and the unemployment rate crept upward. Job-seekers now outnumber job openings.

  • Price increases slowed according to the most commonly watched number. But they worsened according to the measure preferred by the Federal Reserve.

  • Economists estimate the economy grew by only 1.8%.

  • Consumer sentiment declined.

  • The international trade deficit decreased only slightly, by 0.9%.

  • Carbon emissions increased.

  • The number of murders nationwide continued to decline, a trend that began in 2022.

  • The federal debt held by the public rose about 6.7%.

Inflation was 3% in January 2025 and trending downwards......so it took Trump 12 months to 'drive' it down by 0.3%.....5555

And?

Trump is doing well.

Barack Obama's average GDP growth was 2.3% annually over his two terms (2009–2017), according to Investopedia, which cites data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. This figure represents the average annual real GDP growth rate during his presidency.

However, interpretations vary:

  • Some sources, including the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee, report a 1.5% average annual growth rate, noting that this was below the 3.4% average over the 50 years prior to Obama’s presidency.

June 07 was just before GFC started. Obama failed to reduce UE to pre GFC levels in 8 years. The GFC ended mid 09.

Obama added 0.6% to UE in 8 years after you factor out gfc recovery. He was hopeless.

So you have no concept that when he came to office growth was -2.6%........that little dash means minus, and he then turned the economy around.

Real GDP growth in 2016 under President Obama was 1.6% for the full year, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). This marked a slowdown from previous years and was below the Obama Administration's own projection of 2.6%.

  • Author

Barack Obama's best GDP growth year was 2015, with a 2.6% increase in real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product. This marked the highest annual growth rate during his presidency and was below the average of other postwar presidents. While his administration's overall average annual real GDP growth was 1.5%—the lowest among post-World War II presidents
