60 days Visa Exempt Likely to Last .....?

Featured Replies

Arriving UK passport , visa exempt in late March for 35 days. Do I still get 60 days on arrival? I hear that they may return to 30 days. As my flight leaves after 35 days what happens if they change it back suddenly before I fly out? Could I get an emergency extension in that case so I dont have to get a new flight?

I know they do things suddenly without giving any warning and dont want to lose my flight home.

I doubt it will revert back to 30 days before end of March 2026. Once you are here, if it does revert after entry of 60 days, you'll still have the 60 days as stamped.

IF it should change back to 30 days BEFORE you board your flight, then the biggest worry would be overzealous airline check-in staff not allowing you to board due to your return being beyond the 30 days - even though you can extend easily for another 30 days once in country.

If it were to change prior to you arriving in Thailand then simply apply for 30 day extension (1900b)

The other alternative is to do a 5 day overstay (2500b)

Obviously not a good idea to overstay when there is easy alternative.

Rather than worry about what could/might happen if the visa exempt is changed to 30 days you could consider applying for a single entry tourist visa (SETV) and put your mind at ease.

You still have plenty of time to get one. It's all done online and should not take more than a week. Cost is 30 GBP.

Easier still, just seek an extension at your local imm office, if you should receive only 30 days.

We're back on the perpetual loop of immigration confusions - really boosting tourism indeed .........

Why the sniper.

The OP has two clear options.

IF ve reverts back to 30 then he can obtain a 30 day extension.

OR can obtain a SETV eVisa prior to entering Thailand.

Thailand has more options to visit/stay than many countries.

Really, Philippines has a VE that let's you continue to renew up to 36 months, leave for one day and start again.

Also with their retirement visa (SRRV) you never report to Immig for anything (90 day etc) and your card is only renewed once every 2 years. Had mine 15 yrs and never been to an immig office. They also have the usual tourist visa

My concern was the checkin not letting me board without onward ticket....so I will just book a cheap train to Malaysia .

I would not do that. In the main if airline has issue with onward flight then train/bus won't cut it.

If demanded onward flight then step away from check in and either book throw away or rent a ticket from eg "onwardticket.com"

Only because that link was to the UK Thai Embassy, you can normally get an SETV from the Thai Embassy of the country you're currently in.

Perhaps if you mention the country you're currently in somebody can give you country specific Tips/Information about getting an SETV from there.

E.g. Here's the info for getting one in Vietnam...

Key Details for SETV in Vietnam

  • Method: Apply online at the official Thai E-Visa portal, rather than in person.

  • Location Requirement: You must be physically present in Vietnam when submitting the application to upload your Vietnamese arrival stamp.

  • Jurisdiction: If you enter Vietnam via Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), you should apply through the HCMC Consulate, which is generally stricter, while the Hanoi Embassy may be faster.

  • Required Documents:

    • Passport (valid for at least 6 months).

    • Vietnamese visa or entry stamp.

    • Flight tickets to Thailand.

    • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking).

    • Financial proof (bank statement showing roughly 10,000-20,000 THB).

Curious, if he applies for a 30 day extension but gets rejected, would he still get the 7 Day extension like you would if you had a Non-IMM O Visa and would this run from the end of the 30 days giving him the time he would need.

Though, as mentioned, his biggest challange is likely to be over eager airline check-in staff.

Thanks... but in my experience a bus/train ticket out of the country works just fine. Thats the trouble with internet information. People just fling out any old bull<deleted> without even knowing. Thus causing more problems than they solve.

I have actually tried onwardticket.com but it didnt work, so I just bought a bus ticket instead....and cancelled it later.

Why didn't it work.

Also you are stating that airline at departure accepted a bus ticket.

It wouldnt allow me to buy the ticket. More than once actually.

Its really bull<deleted> because it wouldnt stop anyone who was planning to overstay

What does that even mean.

Don't understand any of your posts.

Strange at which stage in the process did it fail?

I've used them a few times with no problems & did a dummy run all the way to the final payment page.

Possibly it means. The onward ticket rule is shyzer because it doesnt stop people overstaying.

There is no onward ticket rule.

Onward flight is sometimes required by airline for those flying visa, exempt to Thailand.

Also has nothing to do with Overstay.
