Renew Australian Passport

Is renewal online for IT hopeless, doable? Trip to Embassy maybe or use an agent? Costs are a factor but it's a must do, thoughts anyone please,!!

It's pretty straight forward but they're quite strict with the photo quality.

There's a fair bit of information here.

You could always brave the embassy line, but by the time you’re done, you might have aged a few years. Or just hire an agent who knows the ropes—after all, there’s no price tag on avoiding bureaucratic chaos… except 13,160 baht. 🙃

I did Oz pp renewal completely online.

It's a breeze.

You do have to walk to post office to post application. (Have existing pp with you)

Note: unlike some pp renewals your existing pp is retained and not sent with application.

Second as someone posted. The pics must be strictly done by professional studio.

While there are couple of local "passport photo" Shops, I drove to a specialist.

The application has photo requirements. Take that.

From me posting application to receiving new pp at my condo via post was 20days.

Your EMS tells you when application arrives Bangkok Oz embassy.

No news (reply) is good news.

Means application seems complete and on way to Oz.

Note: I did the application using only cell phone.

Meant take picture of ID page and crop etc.

Just pointing out, does not require laptop/computer etc

It's a cake walk.

Thread link from @Will27 has some good advice.

Basically ditto.

I went to the Embassy web site, found the passport renewal page, read the details, filled out and printed the completed application form, got pics (get a jpeg or similar copy also, just in case the pics are not up to standard), sent off to Embassy - new passport arrived about 3 weeks later. Very very easy, no dramas; apart from a telephone call from the Embassy (2 days after I posted off the application - pics not on appropriate paper, please email jpeg of pic).

Good luck.

Just to ask a further query, I'm 80,is there any requirement from Embassy to stipulate 5 or 10 yrs, I'm thinking 5 may be enough for me?? Friend did his in Oz recently, they would only give him 5.

^ Scroll up to the March 2026 price list photo. It says on the bottom line that the 5 yr passport is optional for people aged 75+
