Apple Airport Time Capsule

Featured Replies

I found a new, still sealed in the box 3TB Airport Time Capsule in a storage unit I rented, looked it up and see it is no longer supported by Apple, was wondering if it is even worth trying to put this on line in a home network. I see it is labeled as 802.11ac, isn’t that a bit outdated?? I connect two smart TV’s, a printer, a few cell phones, and two Apple computers to my existing 1gb TNM network. Don’t want to screw it up for a 3TB storage device. Thanx in advance.

TNM network

Is the whole name too hard to type? Telekom Networks Malawi is what google says it means. But that doesn't make much sense.

Thats all I have ever known them as, I pay once a year, and almost never have to call for anything. This is a local Internet company in Chon Buri, Pattaya area. n My question is about the Apple Time Capsule, not the Internet service provider.

To give a good answer to your query, I need to know the environment surrounding the issue.

The Apple Time Capsule (ATC) is a router with an attached hard drive to add storage accessible from anywhere on your network. The 802.11ac is an older standard but still very useable particularly because your TNM network speeds are already limited to 1 gigabit/sec.

You can easily set it up so that the 3TB drive is accessible to any computer on your network. I recommend that you connect the ATC after the router provided by TNM. You should configure the ATC to operate in bridge mode, which means that in effect it would no longer function as a router. Your TNM device will do all the work of routing on your network.

I never owned an ATC but limited research has indicated my above recommendation is doable. The ATC does support bridge mode. If connected and configured properly your network cables can be connected to either the TNM modem or the ATC.

Do you use Apple or Windoze computers?
