Strength Thai Baht slowing?

Featured Replies

Can't recall in the news anything of the government taking some more decisive then usual actions to slow the strength of the Thai Baht?

But it does seem to be moving (in the good dirrection for the foreigners coming here).

Since the beginning of the year the Baht is down almost 10% against the Australian dollar, seems to have happened in two steps...

Was relatively stable at around 21 Baht/Aus$, last two weeks of januari it moved to 21Baht/Aus$ to stay there again for roundabout 6 weeks), and now over the last two weeks it has gone up to over 23Baht/Aus$.

That first bump to 22 Baht was more Ozzie dollar specific, as that time it also weakend against other currencies

Euro is doing some of the same the last 2weeks, albeit percentagewise much less...

And the last year the exchange has been pretty erratic, unlike the Aus$!

Almost back to 38 Baht/euro, which has been a few months, the 37.62 now hasn't been reacxhed since october last year (got close for a short time early februari @37.4).

So, whereas previously it looked more as the other currencies moving around, but since the change over the last few days seems to be against pretty much all currencies, it indicates the Baht actually weakening.

Possibly oil price related, along with general shortage of reserves in Asia?
