So with the compensation, the family is basically saying it will be okay for this P.O.S. to possiblybe free in 7 years and kill again.

All they would have to do is read aseannow.com and they could find out.

News of this case has gone global. If the family take money for a reduced prison sentence, it shows to the world the Thai justice system can be circumvented by paying money. Not a good look.

Well i'll tell you something else that is "not a good look" A Foreign mob criticising a recently bereaved Thai Family , based solely on reports of might or could possibly happen. Nothing in the OP says they are actively seeking, or would even accept compensation yet the sanctimonious warriors cannot control themselves

So in view of the above quote would anybody else like to take this opportunity to apologise for their insensitive comments ?

But......The family have said nothing of the sort

did you miss that bit , or just choose to ignore it, in your haste to stick your knife in to a poor grieving family, ?

Once I was approached by a girl who looked under age (in Chiang Mai), but she insisted that she is 18. I asked her if she has an ID. She said that her ID is with her grandma. I told her to go and get it.

She never showed up.

This is the way to avoid such situation that could end up stupid and regretful.

The dead girl was carrying ID that said her age was 22.

Then just when one thinks that the Thai bashing has finished new depths are reached

This is Thailand. They are mostly invertibrates.

A quality comment indeed,

Any claims regarding a fake ID stating she was 22 are completely absent from verifiable police updates and mainstream investigative reporting.

Best you go whinge to the posters that introduced to the forum the so called fake ID then.

I remember reading on here that ALL the underage girls carrying fake ID's saying they are 22 so I'll presume that's where you got it.

He might be worth a fortune in Australia though, who brings all there money over here?

He was on a disability pension in Australia. He had screws in his spine due to an accident.Furthermore his wife and daughter call him weird and had nothing to do with him. On top of this his firearms were confiscated by the police and his firearms licence was cancelled in 2023. So that should tell you something of this scum. As an Australian i am sickened by this and hope he is executed or life with no parole and he also pays the parents compensation of millions but as he is on a pension i cant see that happening.

I tried to find a credible report that she was carrying fake ID but could not. And I'm going to leave it there.

It's happened in many other cases over the years here, most notably, road deaths. Do you deny this?

It MAY happen in this case, or it MAY not. We'll just have to wait and see.

I don't deny anything . and I have no issues if they do get some compensation,

Indeed it May happen but "We" do not "have to wait and see" anything . You might feel the need to keep yourself informed about the actions of the unfortunate family , Personally I don't ,

I read the local news. So do you. If it's in the news, I'll read it, and so will you, as will many others, even people in Australia.

So, we'll wait and see.

Money rules. In Thailand, you can get away with anything if you have enough money. How much does it cost to go free after a murder? Two million baht, when halving the sentence costs one million baht? Disgusting.🤢🤢🤢

Why shouldn't they take the money, The daughter s dead and nothing is going to change that, You have no Idea how much the family needs the cash, Its nothing to do with a moral backbone or the lack of one.

Would some cash improve their lives ? yes, without doubt but of course it won't bring the daughter back

Would a harsher sentence improve their lives No not at all and the daughter would still be dead

Time to be pragmatic, Would it be more difficult to grieve with a few million bt in the bank and the debts paid off? not at all

And the Aussie would be free to do it again.

A post using a foreign language in the quoted content of a post has been removed as this is an English language forum.

Some people think that paying money to avoid suffering the full penalty for a crime doesn't happen in the developed world. Of course it does. Maybe not for murder, but it does happen for other crimes. This can be a fine, 'damages', or a negotiated sum with the authorities. My brother was a VAT fraud investigator and in one particular case involving an ethnic minority (a rich minority) the chaps lawyers turned up and just kept offering more money for the case to be dropped - 5 million GBP was the final figure I think. My brother wasn't happy to see the case dropped, but Treasury agreed it.

Seems there is a certain president of a major country paying to have serious criminal acts and side-tracked, so nothing new.

The ABC news media have crunched all the numbers and figure he'll get 7 years based on a 1 Mil Baht compensation agreed on and plead guilty to all charges.

This is an extreme travesty of justice IMHO.

Wots the betting?

Very interesting post. That monster will be free in max 7 years and don't forget the royal amnesty. But let us face the facts, the family of the poor girl gets a huge financial compensation. So let us call this a win win situation for both or not? So pathetic.

But now the reality, this guy hasn't a penny, I suppose based on his background his family neither. Whatever crowd fund me operation organised, I doubt who ever would finance it.

Bide your time....... it may even happen and we do not get to hear about it.

Don't be surprised to find cynicism here.

How many pages worth of apologies would you be expecting.

It was a big story in The Sydney Morning Herald in Australia just yesterday.

People take an interest in the macabre. Example, people slowing down to look at a road accident as they pass by, something I am sure you have done.
