I live on Jomtien Second Road, AKA, BIRA-2 Racing Circuit. Day and night, 24/7, rented "big bikes" scream up and down the roadway, weaving in and out of traffic, blowing through red pedestrian signals and last week, killing a man crossing 2nd road. I can easily believe considerable damage done to the bikes as the hot shot riders rev beyond red-line limits, grind gears and generally abuse the bikes. They frequently modify rented bikes to make them louder and backfire on command. !00,000 Baht +++ damage does not seem at all unlikely nor unreasonable to me. Limiting motorcycle/motorbike rentals to 125cc for riders without valid Thai motorcycle licenses would just make so much sense on so many levels. I guess perhaps that's the problem; it makes too much sense.
