Several neighbouring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees
1 You don't have to tie up money in the bank if you can prove that you have enough monthly income. 2 You can do 90 day reporting on line if you wish. 3 You can be deported from ANY country except your home country should they decide that the authorities don't want you in their country. 4 If you can't afford to live in Thailand, then you probably can't afford to live at the same quality in your home country. -

Several neighbouring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees
There are quite a few alternatives that aren't in Asia. Digital nomad visas abound and some require little proof that you are one. I've got friends who've gotten them in Spain for 3 years, another in Croatia for 1 year. Portugal use to be good but the tax laws changed, so no longer good. Greece has a golden visa with the purchase of property. France has a retirement visa that's pretty easy to get and you end up with pretty decent health care. I got tired of the bad air, water, polluted seas, terrible traffic. Still love Thailand and will return one day. But for now, exploring Europe and the UK. Loving it here. Serbia is quite nice. Though a bit cold in the winter! -

Thailand-Malaysia Rail Partnership Grows: Bangkok-Penang Route Approved
But when will they upgrade the line from Chumphon to the border, it's still single track? Malaysia has already upgraded to double track and fully electrification. The journey from Butterworth to Bangkok will be about 16hrs, train I presume will be an extension of the current overnight express sleeper, so not much sight seeing, easier to take a flight. -

Introduction to Personal Income Tax in Thailand
I have just read most of it through again and definitely it is not at transaction level. My guess would be that the top line may flag an inconsistency which would then lead to further enquiries. Also interestingly it talks a lot about due diligence and page 45 is about this for new accounts - which may be one of the reasons why it has got so much more difficult (according to posts on here) to open new accounts even where they already have an existing account. -

Teenager Stabs Foreign Man in Road Rage Incident Near Pattaya
The problem is they come from up north, hit Pattaya and are totally out of their league. They're supposed to be looking for work, instead get on lao khao and yabba and become raving morons. I've been up north many times as my wife comes from there. She's the first to admit how careful people have to be if you upset them. The areas around Koh Talo have become very dangerous places. When the areas were first developed it was a very nice part of Pattaya. How things have changed in 20 years. -

After 62 Years of Operation, Tang Hua Seng Department Store Struggles In Customer Numbers
I can't count the number of huge retailers that swirled down the same drain back home. The two that come to mind are K-Mart and Woolworths, because I spent so much time in my youth looking through the toys and then the sporting goods at each of them. Eventually, shopping there became akin to shopping at a warehouse for damaged and obsolete goods. Then, they were gone. Contrast that with Academy Sports, which started as a peddler of factory seconds and is now everywhere. Though, today they are more of a clothing store that has some sports stuff. I liked them better when they were junk shops. I always pulled in whenever I passed one. Nowadays, I only shop there when I'm on a mission, and get in and out as quick as I can. I'm the same way with the new and zoomy Bass Pro's and Cabela's. Clothing stores with some sporting stuff... -

Several neighbouring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees
Like everybody else, I have no idea what will happen when the new taxation schemes come into effect. I have a high risk of having to pay a substantial sum if the authorities really mean what they say about worldwide income. So I decided to become non-resident for tax. I am lucky that I have a second home so it is not expensive for me to sped time outside Thailand. I have decided to move quickly and act this year....the reason being that although I do not owe anything this year (although I do expect to have to fight hard for a zero tax rating), I don't want a tax form on file, and then questions asked next year about why I haven't filed for 2025. When the details of how the taxes will be collected and operate (probably some time in 2026) I will make the decision to0 be a tax exile or not. -

Mixed kid living in Thailand.
My two luk krung boys were born outside of Thailand. We went to a Thai consulate and applied for Thai citizenship for them. They were each given Thai passports in about two months. About a year later we moved to Thailand and stayed there for about 12 years. We then relocated back to my home country so they could finish high school and then go on to university. They both have current Thai passports and Thai ID cards. They occasionally go back to Thailand but not often. As they are in their late 30's now, I highly doubt they will ever return to Thailand to work. Holidays, yes but that is about it. If your Thai wife. ex-wife, girlfriend has all the necessary documentation she probably can go and get the child registered and entered into the tabien bahn but I'm not sure if the child has to be present or not.
