More tourist police officers and volunteers are sent to patrol or attend tourist populated locations or residential areas where expats live to ensure highest safety for the high season to come. The Tourist Police Commander of Tourist Police in Bangkok, Police Major General Chucart Suwannakom pinpointed the busy tourist beaches of Patong, Kata, and Karon in Phuket as well as those areas where police received reports of mafia types who harass tourists. He also mentioned the foreign credit card fraudsters who usually hang around Kata Karon areas where police imposed strict checks and led to many arrests. This is also part of the preparation to welcome visitors for this high season to begin in November.

I laughed very hard when i saw him in TV, the guy is few doors away from where i am, he has a place near christin massage

The thais seem to interprate the word mafia as being anyone that commits the smallest crime. A few punks hussleing people on the beach road in pattaya are often refered to as mafia. Makes the police look like they are doing something when they break up a mafia ring - especially the really big shots playing cards for stakes exceeding 2 figure amounts.

I bet western governments wish their mafia were as high profile, strutting around in plastic sunglasses driving taxis, and beating up somtam sellers. I've heard that once there are more than 5 of them, they may even beat up a falang (provided the falang is over 60, drunk and alone as on Bangla last week). Brave boys, much respect I think not.

I'm afraid I forgot what I was going to post as I had a thought about Thai organised crime, and realised what an idiotic notion that was.

if I remember after the giggles subside I'll come back to it.
