Man Uses Piece Of Wood He Put In Garage In 1982 ‘Because It Might Come In Handy In The Future’

A Prestatyn man who put a small block of wood in his garage in 1982 ‘because it might come in handy in the future’ has used it to prop up a set of drawers, 33 years later.

Gary Slowcoach, 52, put the small block of wood in his garage after finding it outside his house. Despite his wife telling him to throw it away, Gary kept it because he thought it might come in handy in the future.

I'm not so sure about the wood blocks, but cables. Electric cables, network cables.. How can anyone throw cables away? One can never be sure if there will be a need to the cable in the future. wink.png

Agree. I've even got cat 5 patch cables and fibre patch cables...yet everything is wireless now. And odd washers, nuts, bolts, screws....Bits of wood only if it's hardwood.

I suppose you have to give full marks for determination to the Christian Church up here in their efforts to put on a Christmas play.

This is the tenth year in a row they've been advertising for three wise men and a virgin.

Should sardine tins be required to have the number of sardines in the tin on the label?

I bought a new (to me) imported brand this week and on opening one found it contained three sardines of different sizes.

They were tasty but it was difficult to get an exactly equal amount of sardine on each slice of toast.

Brunswick Sardines often have two large ones lying one way and a smaller one between them lying the other way.

I always thought, no matter the brand, that the way to tackle the problem was to gently mash them in the tin.

This adds much of the juice. and also homogenises the lovely belly flesh with the dry back flesh.

I have a friend who does that.

I'm not sure it appeals to me though, I like the aesthetic appeal of the little fishies laid in a line on the toast.

The best ones available locally are the imported sprats (Kieler Sprotten) but they are a little expensive.

To hide the messy-looking mash, put a thin slice of cheese on top and lightly grill.

First world problems, eh?

Aren't cheese slices a US problem?

Or if grilled with the plastic still on they are a windowlickers delight!

I was never a big fan of cheese slices, I'd rather grate a little decent mature cheddar and sprinkle it on the top.

Agree totally that cheese slices are for McDonalds Thailand cheeseburgers only, and for American palates.

When I say slices of cheese, I mean cheese sliced off the block.

I slice my cheese off the block rather than grating it....a lot quicker and less messy. With a decent knife, one can get tissue-thin, almost transparent slices, which are a delight to pop into your mouth as they simply melt on your tongue. Several of them for a sardine toasty.

There's some good block cheese around if you look, a local deli run by a Dutch guy here imports some Scottish mature cheddar that if delicious.

He also bakes bread and apple pies and makes sausages and bacon.

Long may he prosper!

Bread and apple pies? Give me a nice flaky pastry pie any day. Bread is for toasting under sardines - as above.

I have been riding my first bike with 20inch wheels. Kind of like a mini-velo, but not a folding bike. Noticed the tyres need more frequent inflation.

On this day in 1769, Edward Beran of London patented Venetian blinds.

When I was asked as a young lad by a teacher "How do you make a Venetian blind ?"

"You poke him in the eyes, sir." I replied.

.

I'll see myself out.

Ignorance is everywhere...

I asked my neighbour if he felt like going to see the new Star Wars movie one night.

"Leave it for a while" he said, "I don't feel like lining up for an hour just to watch Captain Kirk".

Hey, that was a spoiler.

Not really, they came close last week.

It's more than a day since episode release anyway.
