Starting a job here in Thailand, I was told by my employer that they have regularly managed to have an applicants' Tourist Visa converted to a Multiple Non-Immigrant "B" Visa, which would allow the employee to stay in Thailand for up to 1 year without doing any border runs to activate the entries of such a multiple visa. True or fiction?

False. They may convert a visa to obtain a single entry non immigrant visa and then a one year extension of stay; but it is not a visa and any entry/exit would require a re-entry permit prior to travel.

Cost is 2,000 baht for conversion, 1,900 baht for extension, and 1,000 baht or 3,800 baht for single/multi re-entry permits.

With this you would not have to leave country but you would have to make address reports every 90 days.

I think the Non Im B is your first concern, the work permit the second.

BTW If you don't have the required papers, there is a company in Pattaya who can arrange this Non Im B (or O). First fee is THB 15,000 for the conversion,

then THB 20,000 for the next year.
