Special Vox Pop - International Business Association of Phuket (IBAP) members on the good & bad side of doing business here

Last weekend the International Business Association of Phuket or IBAP held its annual Business Fair at Jungceylon shopping centre in Patong. Among the many foreign and Thai run businesses there, exhibiting their products and making new contacts, during a busy weekend with the Phuket Film Festival and local sports also going on, there was one IBAP member and sports fitness company, SEARA,who were also raising funds for local AIDS charity & Thaitanics NGO for underprivileged women and children, by running sponsored (treadmill) runs as their staff member khun Boom told us more: “People yesterday very interesting….. many people help.. for Thaitanics Organisation.” That was one good example of IBAP members helping the community, but of course most are here to work and live in paradise.

Just before the IBAP fair, during their meeting at Loch Palm golf club, we asked some members what they think are the good points of doing business here? First David of Chemdry & Rotary club: “It’s a growing economy… Stay? Yes!” Then Denny of Phuket Directory & Treasurer of IBAP: “The fun of the learning curve ….great fun.” Then Charlie, of DMG & webmaster of IBAP-Phuket.org “The best thing is being here .. can get a little tricky.” and Nigel, of SBS teambuilding: “Everything is exciting…. compared to UK socially miserable.”

On the opposite side here are their opinions on the bad points of doing business here: “It’s a small island.. limiting factor.” “I’d rather focus on the good side.. even the cobra smiles!” “One of the problems,,,, IBAP helps …. living in Phuket.” “Two things I don’t like are Thai TV & drivers… what time is your program in English?” It’s 8.30-9am Nigel, but any of you business members are welcome to sponsor or commission your own programs on our channel, to improve your business and Thai TV!
