I've been reading this site for a year and studing all I can find on the subject, even have a mate from Norway who when through arrest and say's "no problem" but I read differently.

I was arrested 30 years ago, feloney. USA love to lock up it's folks...but I'm bitter.

I came to Thailand 1 1/2 years ago and "village" married my wife

( found her on a sponser site),payed my sod sin ,all happy as I stumbled through "Thai adjustment",until I found out it's not "legal". Now want to marry my wife at the town hall, with certificate,but read a ciminal record will stop this cold.

What can you tell me?

Is money a way around? (hope not, I;m state side working for our happy future)

Anyway a stupid farang finds true love in Surin and now finds moutains in his way.

Any advise and please don't yell at me.

I've just finished the process of marrying my wife in Thailand and there wasn't any mention of a criminal record. I had to go to my embassy in Bangkok and swear an affidavit that I was elligible to marry and that was it. You can get a marriage certificate from Thailand translated and it will be legal in your home country as well. Feel free to pm me if you would like more details. Good luck.

Hi all,

Im probably in the wrong post as i cant find the right one for my situation, im thinking of retireing in thailand at the age of 50,but as im only 42 its early days, i have a criminal record for a petty crime for shoplifting that happened 22 years ago, ive never re-offended & was wondering whether i will have any problems appyling for a retirement visa? What sort of criminal record check do i need for a retirement visa for thailand? & will it show my criminal record or not?
