Suggestions For Keyless/cardless Door Locks?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone installed a keyless/cardless door lock for the front door of their condo or house? Like a combination key-in lock with door handle (lever) or knob? Just wondering if they are satisfied with it and are they are reasonably safe (or more secure than regular key locks)? If so, where did you get it and did you install it yourself?

I saw one at HomePro (and also a tiny remote-control operated door lock (made in Australia) at HomePro) and thought it might be a nice change from the conventional key locks.....

I would have to agree with Jimmy the Mook that MUL T LOCK is a TOP QUALITY, pickproof lock. This is one of the top Brands of the largest lock company in the World, Assa Abloy based in Sweden, but plants and brands World Wide. Selected Home Pros can special order the Electronic locks from Mul T Lock. Consumer Reports gave Medeco and Assa residential DEADBOLT locks the TOP 3 ratings in the October 2005 ratings. Perhaps the Mul T Lock distributor in Bangkok at 02-2454-834 can give you other retail locations of Mu T Lock digital locks.

The Medeco, Assa, Abloy sales manager for Thailand might be Panuwat 02-722-7371 [email protected]

Mul T Lock "normal" keyed locks are not cheap, but the keys CAN NOT BE COPIED at any lock shop in Thailand. They really take key integrity seriously at Assa Abloy. Lockwood is a lower end line, perhaps made in Austrailia of this company and they sell a Digital DX lock

Lockwood is available on special order at many hardware stores in Thailand.

There is an area of Bangkok that is known for doors and locks. I do not know the name, but in this area they do have dealers for a finger print or key-code lock, also with a CAN NOT DUPLICATE AT A SHOP actual key. The company has a fair web site called www.mature-lock.com and they will e-mail you instructions in Thai and in English on installation and operation. You can e-mail them or phone the manager Khun Phada Mahaworasilip at 02-713-3624 I placed an order for several of his locks but they are not installed yet since we are not yet ready for the doors. These locks are made in China.

Hafele has expensive slick looking key-less, keypad, etc. locks. They however are for a hotel INTERIOR doors and will not withstand serious physical OR WATER damage. Hafele has many levels of lock quality in many different price ranges. Widely available at Home Pro and Home Mart on the lower end locks. The Hafele showrooms have the electronic locks on display and in stock.

I can not think of a better keyed lock than Mul T Lock anywhere near the price range that is available in Thailand that can withstand physical assault, attempted bumping or picking and be impossible for the maid to copy a key.

I think for a private residence a good thing to consider is the company run by Mike Rust 081-816-2069. www.wasp-security.com has a great web site, a professional color brochure in Thai and English that he will mail via the postal mail and he answers his phone and e-mail. He seems like a straight shooter and I met him at his office near a BTS station (E 8 ?) He will e-mail you a good map and can show you all the products he sells that can help greatly with a private residence (not condo) security. [email protected]

You can also get a guard dog or guard Elephant. My wife brought over an Elephant from the Moon River Dragon Boat Races for "Good Luck" at our home under construction. TBWG was given some lawn fertilizer by this same wonderful 4 legged creature on Sunday.
