It's a bit of a narrow poll and i would think it hard to garner some useful information from the poll as in there are a limited number here married to a Thai in Thailand, and probably very few of those would admit to adultery. The thread may produce some interesting views though.

It's a cultural thing isn't it.? Thai men cheat on their wives (generalising I know) because it is culturally accepted if not morally correct, the more wealth or power the man has the more likely it is that he can get away with or continue such actions as the spouse is more dependant on her husband, to the point of letting the husband take a 'little' wife, I'm sure no woman can truly accept this, but some do to retain financial security for herself and her dependants.

For a westerner with greater financial clout the temptation must be great, obviously (relatively) affluent with a seeming abundance of potential partners, for some the temptation, the ability and the Thai cultural norms must be too great and they will indeed commit adultry, even if they would not do so in their home country where these factors are not as significant, but I would like to think (although you poll may well prove me wrong) that Thai women like Farang partners not only for financial security, but for the ideal of marital fidelity that most westeners would consider a virtue.

I wonder if some of them aren't just bragging it up for the lads, like the ones who claim to be the big boss of the house & how their wife does everything for them but when they get home are henpecked & doing all the household chores & getting an allowance off the missus?

Honestly gh, I have no idea. I live on a very small island and don't know more than a few farang guys with Thai wives, and those I do know have local wives. Surefire way to face the duck on this island, if you get my meaning.

As for thai guys, well, my husband puts it at about 75%. Not many men in his family cheat, dad's side that is, mom's side is a different story. Different values, different families I guess. My FIL is well-to-do and does not cheat on his wife (its a small island, we would all know if he did) and I doubt my MIL would put up with it, to be honest.

But, I am with Boo, I read about it on this forum and take it with a grain of salt. Boys do like to brag.

I voted ********* because out of all the expats I know living in Thailand, that is how many have extra curicular activities when they can afford to.

It's probably more than don't admit to it but less than those that do.

Another similar question could be how many expats working in Thailand with farang wives indulge in their little liaisons dangereuse (sp?) on their golf afternoons.

Or, how many farang hubbies back in farangland with farang wives would take the plunge if it were so available as it is in Thailand?

I voted 51-75% based on what I see and hear. They are tempting.

Based upon the expats I know well enough to comment upon, I would put it around 50%, but I don't know all that many very well, so my sample set was fairly small. I should think that a decent sample set would indicate the actual percentage is likely to be lower.

I live in a very small town with a high percentage of westerners. If you break wind at one end of it, the news gets to the other side before the smell.

I know how many do, how many definitely don't and how many are 50/50, my estimation would be around 20%

I do get the impression from some of those that definitely don't is that the only reason they remain faithful is because the only place they are allowed to go unaccompanied is the toilet.

It is usually the other way round. They would try to keep it low profile. People always underestimate the real no.
