HI, I am a 45 year old single male coming to Thailand for the 2nd time, last time late July - Aug in Koh Samui, I rented a one room bungalow steps from the most popular beach $34 per night walked to the main street, ate on the beach, had a great time. This time I am thinking about Phuket but I am coming Dec 14-25 . A friend who lived there last year suggested the Hilltop Hotel but it seems too far from the beach and I dont want to stay right in Patong but he said that is the place to be. He said he suggest staying as close to Patong as possible. I guess what I am looking for is a bit of paradise with easy access to town. I woud love to stay within short walk to a great beach. I looked at hotels on line and was amazed at how much the prices have gone up especially at peak season. Maybe I shoud bag Phuket all together. I am not so locked into the Patong night life. I am not into bar girl scene although I wouldn't mind meeting a nice Thai woman.

If you agree with my friend and think I should stick with Phuket can you suggest some places to stay? Do yu agree with him that I should stay close to Patong?

Should I forget Patong or Phuket all together? if so where should I go? if you suggest another island can you give me some places to stay, under $60 is good. $35 would be nice but I would pay more I like a nice place.

I would love to hear your thoughts and hotel suggestions.

Thanks,

Roadman

If you haven't already booked, and your top budget is $60, I think you can safely forget Phuket, or Koh Samui. You might be able to find something on Koh Lanta Yai in the South, or perhaps Koh Chang or Koh Samet or Koh Kood in the East.

Check out Tri Trang beach resort, only 5 minutes out of Patong, on the beach good restaurant and very quiet.

If you want to meet ladies and not hit lady bars Patong offers something fairly unique. The absolute plethora of massage shops. You will meet the ladies who can't handle the bar scene here.

A good place to start is bali hai massage clean and a cut above the other places.

the period from december 1 to 18 (or so) is fairly quiet in phuket. from 18 onwards its nuts, and rooms are very scarce, often requiring you to stay for a minimum of 5 or 7 days, and partake in the christmas eve dinner.

if its patong you are after, there is a good guest house called Jinnys. its up near Montes pub and is clean and safe. you could try them for accom.
