What is behind the bars not being able to serve alcohol on election days? Seems an odd rule to me and maybe purely a Thai thing - I haven't heard of it happening in other countries. Great for tourism, of course, forbidding the punters from having a beer or six after walking around in the heat and humidity all day while spending thousands of baht in the stores and markets.

Of course, in my experience you can always find places that ignore the law, because TIT, which makes the rule even more stupid. Just makes life inconvenient for everyone. Nothing new there, then.

This rule has been around for years. Think about it, some of the festive celebration not related to Buddist also force PUB and DISCO to closed on the day. You in Thai, follow the Thai. Just as you in Rome.....

For a change I say, the ruling is ok.

Hot election debates, angry or exited people and all fueled by alcohol.

A farang might be able to hold the drinks and cannot vote anyway.

But let's keep the day(s) dry, it's safer.

Too many political shootings leading up to election. No need to fuel the fire with Alcohol.

....or perhaps that's a good thing???
