Just looking for opinions as I imagine worst case scenario here!

So my husband's passport expires at the end of December - not normally a big problem clearly except the Nigerian embassy are currently " experiencing technical difficulties" and are not only not able to produce passports but are also not accepting passport applications.

This has been going on now for at least a week - as we had went online to pay his renewal fee and saw their message.

Now we have tried contacting them and e-mailing them to find out how long they anticiapte this being the case and also if they had any provisions for those with passports expiring shortly- however we have had no response. I am now realising it was naive of us not to have did this sooner - althogh with renewal they have a same day service so not too naive! So now we have four weeks left before it expires and even if the embassy sort themselves out - which I doubt - they will have a back log no doubt so hmmmmm - any suggestions here as to how to avoid him being here on an expired passport.

I was considering calling immigration to update them - his settlement visa is still live until March 2008, it is just the passport that is expiring.

I know I am panicking early but any suggestions on a contingency plan would be very much appreciated!!!!

However, don't panic, as his lawful stay in the UK is governed by his visa and not by the validity of his passport.

Scouse.

Well thats a relief!!!

I think we will keep trying to call them - they do seem to be rather aheerrm relaxed - and then if no avail by next week try Dublin (good idea) and see what they suggest! Worst case scenario there is cheap enough flghts over there and as it is a renewal rather than a re-issue they can hopefully do it on the same day! We shall see!

Thanks
