Mac Iphoto/itunes Backup Hw

Featured Replies

I did a search but did not find any threads on this. Would like to back up the 3500 images I have taken (and loaded into IPhoto) in Thailand as well as back up my Itunes Music, and was wondering what hardware folks are using to do this. Web-based back up is not an option as I don't have reliable, or fast connection to the internet. A firewire connected disk drive would be great, and am looking for suggestions on which versions have the most idiot-proof SW and User Interface. All help appreciated!

I bought a Western Digital "My Book Studio Edition" 500 GB External Hard Drive. It's firewire...just plug it in and start filling it up. About 9,600 baht at MacCenter.

You can find Firewire SATA drive boxes in many hardware shops, usually around 2,000 baht and up. Buy the hard drive size of choice and just plug it in, close the case and plug it into your Mac.

If you have Leopard, Time Machine will automate the back-ups for you; very easy and comforting!

I have an external USB drive 320GB. However, I would recommend a FireWire drive, USB can be very slow. I had 20MB/s on average over one USB box, and 10MB/s on another one, both no name boxes.

Firewire should be better, FW800 or e-sata even better but my Mac doesn't have an e-sata port so the latter would be inconvenient.

Thanks for the inputs! I didn't realize the firewire HDs were so turn-key. I'll go that route. Appreciate the help.
