Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I am about to apply for tourist visa to take my thai bf to canada for 2months. he is a 3rd year english major and has a letter of invitation from my family. His purpose for going is to learn english in an english speaking environment. Is this a straight forward case, or will there problems for him to get his visa. thanks for anyone who can give advise on this matter. windrider

A few notes..

Canada doesn't have a tourist visa. It has a temporary residence visa (TRV). That's what your boyfriend will have to apply for.

Canada grants TRVs for temporary travel. Unfortunately, your application "reason" doesn't make sense. If your bf were going to Canada to learn English, two months wouldn't be long enough. So my guess is they're going to deny his application because it simply doesn't make sense. Maybe you should change the reason to "tourism."

Going beyond that, when they consider a TRV, they want proof that the applicant intends to return home. So generally they'd want to see that your bf owned a nice home and had a good job to which he would return. Since he's still in school, the fact that he needs to return to his studies will help his application prospects. But I don't know if it's enough.

Good luck.
