Hi,

As an add on to my recent Question about changing my wife's ID card, would it be in our interest to change her son's name to her married name would it make it easier for his settlement visa application in a few years time. When we were in Thailand for our marriage she changed her sons name from his fathers to her maiden name it took about 2 hours at some office. I'm not sure why she didn't use her married name but her ID and passport had her maiden name and still has although as I said in my other question we hope to change that.

Thanks

Dave

Your step-son's name will have no bearing upon the success or otherwise of his settlement application.

Thanks Scouse,

Would not school records with my name not help to prove the lack of involvement of his father. He has not seen his father for 3 years and he is being bought up by his maternal grandparents and is 100% financially dependent on my wife and I, as is her parents. We have put him in the best school and pay for extra lessons.

There is a lot of emphasis on proof of sole responsibility and I thought that the name change might help.

The evidence that your step-son is financially dependent upon you and that you pay for the school fees etc. will go further in demonstrating sole responsibility than a name change.
