Can any of you guys shed any light on the tricky phone tariffs imposed by the various providers AIS, Dtack, True etc

I find their business practices downright fraudulent

It starts out that you get yourself a new promotional sim card. this gives you from 20 to 50 baht free airtime and can last up to 6 weeks

you then top up with say 150 baht and that gets you 2 months

all ok so far.

unfortunately i dont use my phone that much so its quite difficult to use up 150 baht in 1 month for me anyway

so i find after 3 months the provider has sneakily changed my tarrif so that when i top up with said 150 baht i only get an extra 8 days

Well use a 300 baht card. So i did and they only gave me 2 weeks

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

so i got this 'kin phone with 450 baht which will expire in 3 days time

AIS and DTAC have the same dirty trick

What TGs do is change their Dtac card every 2 months (49baht) the promotion gives them 50 satang per min and the period lasts 6 weeks.

so the operator will be left with all the expired numbers siting around for 6 months till their validity expires and not earning a penny.

Thats really bright isnt it.

Ive also heard its possible to transfer days from one phone to another but its all in thai (of course)

I also suspect their is a different set of rules if you opt to have you phone speak english to you rather than thai (they know who you are nasty flang)

One guy i now gets a 1 year validity, but he does use his phone a lot.

any one any ideas how to beat the system. :D

I don't use prepaid phone service but a friend of mine, who's traveling between Europa and Asia several times the year uses a AIS prepaid Sim Card which last for one year without renew.

May you check with the AIS call Center about that service or may an other meber knows more about it!

Personally I think all mobile phone companies in all companies make the rules too complicated to make obscene profits,

But I got a 'happy' sim from DTAC for 99 baht, it has 20 baht of credit that lasts 365 days. Put 20 baht on the card before it expires and you then have 40 baht for the next year. Calls are 2 baht per minute.

Find a SIM card seller who understands English to make sure you get the correct card.

Hi,

2 options:

- If you've had your prepaid card for more than 3 months:

If you've already had your prepaid card for more than 3 months, you can use any promotion (even the very cheap ones) and extend the validity of up to a year just by typing *100*9# and call, you will get a menu and just use the "Day Give Away Service" (reply with the number 6), it will cost you 12 Baht to extend your validity of 180 days. 12 more baht and you'll get your year of validity. I've used it many times and keep on having 360 days left on my card and the very best promotion, could not get cheaper/better than this.

- If you've just got a new prepaid (and cannot wait 3 months), call 1678 and ask them to change your promotion to "SimPLE". You will pay all your calls to all network 2 Baht / min but whenever you recharge your phone (even 20 Baht recharge), the system will extend the validity of your card to 1 year (365 days).

Cheers,

Laurent

Good reply, laurent. :o

I bought 180 days recently - very good idea as I rarely make calls.

I also send phone money to my g/f as she is forever calling her mum - so I get the time by topping up my account, and she gets the money to make the calls.

For DTAC, the code is *112*receiving_phone_number*baht#

e.g. *112*0812345678*50#

...and to save even more, pay 800 at the dtac shop and you get topped up with a 1000,- and 365 new days ...

That must be a new promotion. In the past an B800 payment at DTAC would only give a B900 top-up and far less than 365 new days.

e.g. Last time I did it was 31Aug07, I paid B800, got B900 and the confirmation SMS says: "Your credit wil expire on 28-DEC-07."

With DTAC call *1013 and you can extend the life of your sim up to 360 days for a small fee.

Hey thank you SO MUCH for that :o I just did that... i have this D-TAC number for over two years already and always keep it topped up so i can use the internet while on the road (G-Mail mainly) as my main phone (Hutch) doesn't have the required features...... i just tried your trick and voila, got a full year now and it only cost 24 Baht (2x 12 Baht, max is 6 months but can do it twice).

Is there a similar option for TRUE Move as well?

With kind regards.....

I just asked at a DTAC shop and got the same result as wpcoe: 800 baht gets you 900 top-up, and 90 days validity (which is the same as 10 baht / day).

The WORST top-up cards I have seen are 500 baht / 30 days.

I normally buy 200 baht / 30 days.

Thanks to Emp_Tud for the "time-buying" number (*1013) which I used a few months ago but didn't save. It's now in my phone. :o
