Download Windows XP Service Pack 3 Build 3264

This is it! Microsoft has made available for download the first public version of Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Having already dropped release candidate versions for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 this month, the Redmond company lived up to its latest trend, the synchronization of the major update milestones for its Windows client and server operating system. This is the first official beta build of XP SP3, and is accessible to all Windows XP users. However, you have to be advised that Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate is still in beta stage, and as such, it should only be deployed in testing environments, and not used on productions machines.

The Standalone Update Package for XP SP3 RC can be grabbed as windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe. The executable file weights in at 336.1 MB, contains build 3264, and is offered via the Microsoft Download Center. Earlier this month, Microsoft dropped Windows XPSP3 RC1 Build 3244 also through the Download Center. Windows users that have deployed a previous testing milestone of XP SP3 will have to uninstall it, before applying XP SP3 Build 3264. All those interested in getting their hands on a the near-final version of Windows XP Service Pack 3 can download Build 3264 via the link right from Microsoft.

"This is the self-extracting executable that contains the update package for Windows XP Service Pack 3. Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers' experience with the operating system. This pre-release software is provided for testing purposes only. Microsoft does not recommend installing this software on primary or mission critical systems. Microsoft recommends that you have a backup of your data prior to installing any pre-release software", reads Microsoft's overview of the XP SP3 download.

I noticed it has jpn in the filename > japanese version? Normally would expect enu

Reimar, can you please link to the page offering the download instead of a direct link to the file itself? I think most users feel more comfortable if they can read the accompanying information.

Thanks for the update!

EDIT: This appears to be the release notes: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...77c953a761.aspx

Like Tywais said, you're linking to a japanese version. There does seem to be a file "windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe" floating around as well.

English version: WinXP sp3 package directly from Microsoft. Reimer's version appears to be Japanese

Don`t miss the warning.

This pre-release software is provided for testing purposes only. Microsoft does not recommend installing this software on primary or mission critical systems. Microsoft recommends that you have a backup of your data prior to installing any pre-release software.

Shouldn't I be up to this level anyway, having allowed Windows Update

to add files to my system periodically?

Astral - no, because this is an RC version - release candidate. That means it's not the final release, MS is still ironing out bugs, the public RC helps finding more. An RC should have pretty good quality, better than a beta. But it's not final, and for a reason.

It will show up in the automatic updates once it's ready.

I don't know why you people bother downloading the Rc... do you love being an unpaid beta tester? I mean... this is a service pack, it's not like there are going to be a lot of exciting new features in it...

I'm sorry to everybody special to those who had problem with the SP3 because I submitted the wrong Download Link.

But here is the right one: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyo...;displayLang=en

The last few days I hadn't time for anything else as just to finish some very importand work for one of my customer. Some like that could be happens sometimes because of security rule for some work I could do by myself only because my staff isn't allowed to do that! But since a few hour ago everythings work fine now and I'm a bit more free now.

Any more complains, please let me know!

By the way, it's as nikster wrote, the SP3 is "just" a RC and NOT a final and for that it applys to special rules! No one should forget that!
