Fishing is one of them but I am used to 10-20 kilo Mahi Mahis 15+ kilo Onos Sailfish- Marlin & nice size Uluas(Jack fish family ) In Maui. On My Boat I sold before moving to Thailand. Here I can catch 80 -100 super nit naui's or go to a fishing farm & catch big catfish but not the same.

I love excersize-working on our modest farm-Something about eating the fruits of your labors & surrounding yourself with Beauty you had a hand in creating!

When I go back every year to the U.S It is all about Horsepower . This year I will finish My Rat 427 Ford(Big brother of the 4 bolt main BOSS) & will drop it into a 1973 Dodge Challenger. Should be 595 Horsepower according to the calculations & the high tech electronics I have added. I will get a chance to chum with my good buds Kenny Bernstein

NHRA & see how it does.I guess your only as old as you feel. If Bira circuit can come up with a real track I would consider bring my monster (R3- MOTOR TYPE) Mazda RX8 up here & show the boys what a real race machine can do.It needs a flat track to go the mach speeds it was intended to do! Maybe in 2040 they will have a track!

So far Farming has my vote up in Thailand!

Back home had similar hobies/loves. Loved off shore fisshing. Absolutley loved it, a close second was my BMW E36 M3.

I see your hobbies are similar. I was afraid to post the price part of it but when it comes to enjoyment you can't count what you spend if its worth it . If you have a passion for your hobby go for it. In the end when you look back it is all about memories, they don't have to be expensive(& they don't make you any cooler if they are )-just enjoyable to do something that brings happiness to your life!

I didn't mention price regarding my hobbies, but when it comes to something like that..... price spoils the fun, & so I really do not want to know. If I had to guess, I may have spent 10K baht on crawfish, maybe more. They can run about 250 baht for a mature adult. I have seen them being retailed for 3K, beautiful specimens.... but I don't care about the looks, I only want to eat the critter.

And nothing beats the taste of a fresh water lobster. Now I am craving a huge bowl of daddies & drawn butter .....MMMMMMMMMMMM

Red Claw crawfish are often times called fresh water lobster because the do have the ability to get huge, although most people eat them before they get that big.

I can swim at my local "pool" for only 20 baht. But 1600 metres would be about 160 laps! :o

Here in Thailand my hobbies are flying a CH701 Zenair and a Cessna 177rg. Spend about $10,000USD/year. I just bought a Crownline 240LS bowrider speedboat and budget another $10,000 or so for that. I love the sea and the sky and the mountains.

With the price of gas only go higher and higher.... I can not afford any hobbies that involve gasoline!

Might have to pick up sailing!

Zenair costs only 500 baht per hour for gas (95 octane) to fly. Today had a magnificent flight from grass strip near Petchaburi to Chumphon Airport and back along the coast at 300 - 1000 feet. Flew about 400 miles in about 5 hours. Took lots of photos and video and had a great time with a Thai friend.

I collect Herpa and Dragon Wings commercial aviation miniatures, have about X000 planes, have built a replica of Don Muang, Austin Robert Mueller, and Austin Bergstrom. Currently working on Suvarnabhumi. In the end, mine will cost less than $1000 with no cracks in the runways. :o

I also play a lot of tennis (fairly well, since age 12) and the violin (very badly... as I started when I was 25-26). Work out 3-4 times a week at Fitness First.

Ah, and also in the process of moulding an 8 month old Heng Jr. into a mini-me.

The latter will probably cost a bit more than the few $ hundred a month combined for the other stuff.

:D

Over my life time I have had many.

But due to living in Thailand, they have shifted. Right now they are:

1) Aquaculture. I am raising up Red Claw crawfish. Apparently they are native to Austrailia. I grew up in an area of the world that likes to eat crawfish, so now I decided to make my own farm. Started out with a half dozen or so. Now I have hit critical mass. Soon I will be eating some of these critters.

2) Head Set design. If you know what Ultimate Ear, Etymotic Research etc. is, that is essentially what I do at work. Oh there are many other things I do at work, but right now developing IEMs is our new project.... and I love it!

Dakhar, These are 2 interesting hobbies. How did the little crays taste, were they on the Christmas platter. Head set design is another interesting one, cheers

Heng, can you add a modification to the Suwanaphumii airport, that would be a decent short walk arrivals and departure zone for domestic flights. The wing they are using at the moment is rediculous....there should be an additional arm constructed directly in line with the baggage collection area that allows a short walk like the old domestic hall at Don Muang domestic arrivals.....sort of like an extra hall in the middle of the "H" 5555

My own Hobby, raising, training and competing with the little fella you see in my Avatar, pure breed Border Collies from Oz, he has a couple of Grand Champion grandparents in his bloodline, has just recently won his first trophy so I'm pretty chuff with him.. Unfortunety can not find any decent Agility competions around town. If anyone knows, would appreciate the contacts....

thanks YandR... do you collect as well? Will see if I can take some that don't look too cheesy and PM you the photobucket links if I succeed. I take photos about as well as I play the violin.

lol. Unfortunately I'm limited to stock generic set pieces. So the terminals are in the correct positions... but I don't have a mini replica of the architectural work or anything like that and I haven't figured out what to do with the airport train link (way different scale models) or roadways bi-secting the airport yet. The others were easy as you could use hobby shop greenery and trees to fill in a lot of space. The airports are mostly the just for fun aspect of the hobby, used as showcases for the planes themselves, which of course what it's all about... that and moving the planes around, requesting permission to push, taxi, take off, etc., all the while making whooshing aircraft engine noises.

Heng, if you want to bring your hobby to a whole new level, get yourself a 3d printer.

Just under 40K USD, but you can also use for many other things. Truth is you could build a company around the machine if one wanted, or had the know how.

:o How about you?

Many hobbies that come and go. Current one for the past few years is poker, although that is proving to be more of an income stream than a drain. Technology is also a hobby, but when it's also one's business, then it is closer to work than a hobby. Thai language study is more of a necessity than a hobby, but I like it nonetheless. Golf is more stress relief than a hobby. I go, I play, I win some, I lose some, then I drink. I used to play piano and was pretty good when I quit in my rebellious teens. I'd really like to find some time to start practicing and remember how to crank out some boogie and blues.

I like poke ..errrrr tooo :o but can't say it's my hobby. Beem playing on and off once a month depends on time permits. Spend a few hundreds here and there, gaining and losing .. you now it goes .. call and raise.

When I was about 10 my dad got me started collecting stamps and he use to buy them for me. I remember he got me a whols sheet of raising the flag at Iwo jima. Since I never did much with them after I left home I finally passed them on to my oldest grandson about 15 years ago. Should check with my daughter and see if they have any idea of the value. I doubt if he still has them.

Anyone have any idea what a sheet of "Raising the flag at Iowa Jima" might be worth? That is back when a stamp cost 3 or 4 cents. :o

Hi,

you are not going to get reach any time soon judging from the link below:
