I am due to go to Ubon Ratchathani in the next two weeks. I will be teaching near to Trakon. I don't know anything about Ubon other than a two day stint there when I stayed at teh Tokyo hotel and had a brief look around.

Are there any foreign drinking holes? Also, I am happy to go and eat/drink at Thai haunts, as long as they are relatively safe: that is, not full of young drunk Thai men. Can you recommend any?

Is there a gym anywhere - with a running machine?

I have to ask, are there any girlie bar areas?

Is there any expat community as such? And where do other teachers hang out?

As always, advice appreciated.
