Transfering Music From Laptop To Pc

Featured Replies

I want to transfer all my music from my laptop to my PC.

I'm going to copy it across using a usb flash drive, copying from 'My Music (laptop)

to 'My Music (PC)

I have my music at 256 kbps bit rate on my PC. It is lower on my laptop

because I only have 60 gb hard drive.

Will my music be converted to 256 kbps when copied over as I would like to keep

it all at this rate. If not whats the best way of doing so.

Many thanks for your help and advice.

copy .mp3 files & ripping .mp3 are not same same

once you make a low bit rate file it is a low bitrate file

you can copy low bit rate files to a different hard drive but you cannot improve the quality without re-ripping the original.

i don't think players care about the compression

mp3 mker will make all the songs on a burned cd the same bit rate but this will not make them sound better..

example:

low bit rate = low resolution

you cannot make a low resolution .jpg into a high resolution .tif ..

you can change the file type & file size from .jpg to .tif but it will still be the compressed image.

once a high rez .tif is converted to a low rez compressed .jpg .. dat's what it is no matter what

the resolution / detail is lost in the initial compression

IMHO, anyway

it will be copied at whatever bitrate the original file size on your laptop is, so if the laptop is 256 thats the size it will be copied to your pc.

if you are worried about the space on your pc, you can convert to a lower bit rate(say 128) before copying over.

dont know how serious you are about music or what you listen to, or what kind of set up you have, but can you really tell the difference if listening to mp3 stored on a computer?

as the previous poster said you can go down but you cant go up, you cant put back whats not there.

Ok thanks, I understand it more now. Its 128 on my laptop and I wanted to have better quality music on

my PC. So I shall have to burn alot of cds again.

Thanks for your replies

noodles,

if its 128 on your laptop, thats the bitrate it will be copied to your pc as.

converting it to 256 or 320 will not improve the quality of the music, it will only make it a larger file size.

dont understand the bit about burning a lot of cds again, unless you mean ripping from the original cds and saving on your pc at a higher bitrate.

I like music but I have no ear for it. A high quality stereo system is a waste for me. I transfer music back and forth on a one gig flash drive and it sounds fine to me.

Yes thats what I meant.

thanks

Maybe it's already at 256 kbps or better? I hope so. The last thing you want to do is get a higher bit rate version and realise how much better it sounds! :o

O Dear, No Ear, Accident?? :D
