This one is beyond me - so I am putting it here on ThaiVisa in the hope somebody can help.

One of my laptops is running Windows XP Pro. All legit and up-to-date. Running Nod32 (anti-virus), Zone Alarm Pro, etc.

Two or three days after I installed MS Office XP, I found I was unable to open any Word or Excel documents. Then I was told that 'normal' had been changed and did I want to save the change. Answered NO.

Deleted Office XP, using Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

Reinstalled Office XP full install. Same thing happens after a couple of days.

The laptop has a permanent connection to the Internet via ADSL connection.

The documents themselves are not corrupted as I can email them to another computer and read them there.

There used to be a word macro virus that modified the normal.dot file making opening/saving/printing word documents fail. Make sure NOD32 can scan for word macro viruses. Not familiar enough with NOD32 to know what it scans for.

i remember going through this sometime back. tywais is right. its a virus. I would recommend downloading AntiVir and try scanning your machine.

I would download the prog CureIT from http://www.freedrweb.com and run it. It scans for all kind of Virus incl. the Office Virus (Word, Excel pp.) because Tywais is right, it could be the Office Virus.
