Hey there was a drilling rig out there somewhere and they crew changed from Samui, so there is a Helicopter at the airport, maybe he could hire that, they used to be $500/hr take about 1hr 45 min by chopper to get to Phukett i guess, ask at airport.

I'm afraid that the helicopter operation ceased around 9 months ago.

There are no light aircraft based at Samui airport presently available for hire.

However, you could try Siam General Aviation based at Bangkok who will send an

aicraft to Samui, but they will charge for the empty legs flown.

Other posibilities are the Siam Flying Club at Pattaya and the Flying school at Hua Hin.

Thanks for suggestions! Now we know. My friend got lucky cause someone cancelled and now he got regular flights back and forth with "fraction" of the money. I'll make sure some of that saved money goes down my throat!
