Resyncing Video File Sound

Featured Replies

I took some videos of a fireworks display last night but I was so far away that the sound from the explosions is about 5 seconds behind the visible flashes.

Is there a utility I can use to move the sound forwards by 5 seconds so that it is synchronised with the flashes?

The original video is in .mov file format, but I can convert to .avi format if necessary.

Thanks for any pointers.

You can try TMPGenc (freeware) and de-mux then re-mux the video. Google will locate it for you. Essentially it strips the video and audio out into two separate files (de-mux) then re-mux recombines them with the ability to shift the time frame of the two. Another option is VirtualDUB, also freeware.

I'm not a video expert but these two softwares can maybe help you for some of your video works.

Avidemux

Both are free and Avidemux is under GPL.

Thanks Tywais. I have both of these (TMPGEnc and VirtualDub), but can't remember what I needed them for! :o I think it was for something like adding sub-titles, but maybe not - it was a long time ago. I just followed some detailed instructions and it worked.

OK, thanks for this - I'll get them both and see what I can do with them.

Thanks for the tips - much appreciated.
