Ground Coffee At Friendship

Recommended Posts

At Friendship I've never tried any of the coffee on offer for grinding, but I'm thinking about doing so. There are several varieties. Anybody tried any of those coffees and if so are they any good? Any favorites? Comparable to the best of the commercial pre-ground roasted coffee sitting on the shelves?

I know it's been mentioned somewhere recently, but could you remind me exactly where in Na Klua I can find Bon Cafe?

Thanks :o

Yep, clearly visible, very modern looking coffee shop, lot's of glass and chrome, but no bloody wifi for chrissakes :o:D

A neat trick I read someplace is that if you buy coffee and it's too bitter for you, add a little salt. I was desperate for some coffee and bought a small bottle of cheap instant stuff at a convenience store at midnight, and a little salt made it a LOT smoother and less bitter!

Just a pinch of salt though.

I recall that trick when some Dutch airmen were guests at RAF Lossiemouth in the 1960's. These guys were appalled at the lack of decent local coffee so introduced us to the rather exotic "coffee percolator" and Dutch ground coffee. They always put a pinch of salt in with the grounds to keep the bitterness out. However, the salt ate holes in the aluminium basket and fittings in the percolator.

I prefer BonCafe's product line, especially the red-labelled one but I await Mobi's review of the Friendship's stock of beans. I am in Ghana right now with my stock of Brazilian, Vietnamese, Italian and Dutch grounds to keep em going. BTW, I saw BonCafe's stuff on the shelf at Villa. Save your money and buy from the source in Naklua!

BonCafe have expanded their shop quite nicely there and I am sure if you mention the lack of wifi, they will see the need and install it. After all it's a small investment to get those extra customers with laptops in the door. But there's always a trade-off with the tightwad who reads the free newspaper, surfs for hours in air-conditioned comfort but only buys the one coffee.

Bon Café coffee is much less expensive and better. You can spend double what you would spend there anywhere else and not get the choices or the quality.

Also, the ladies that work there are not only pleasant and fun, but they are very nice on the eyes.

OK then, I got some of the Morning blend there today and will test it out soon. Hope you're right about the quality; but as you say, the price is reasonable and the ladies ARE nice looking.
