Firewire Installation

Featured Replies

I need to install a firewire card on my PC but I have a problem. All my hardware sockets on my motherboard are full. I need to download my video from my video camera. Anyone have any suggestions on what hardware I can buy to overcome this problem?

what are in your PCI slots on your mother board ? what cards.

you can get some PCI cards that are 2 USB2 and 2 IEEE 1394

A lot of (maybe most) motherboards built within the last few years have firewire on the motherboard. They may have a jack for it at the back near the other jacks (network, keyboard, mouse) or not. Motherboard kits that are built for people who build their own computers (or replace motherboards in old ones) that have firewire just on the motherboard (and no jack) will come with a metal shield-and-cable thing that fits into the back slots where add in boards go (many motherboards are configured so that even when all the slots in the motherboard are filled there's still an open slot in the back of the case). You put the shield in the case slot and connect the other end of the cable to the pins sticking up out of the motherboard. If you have a mass-market PC your motherboard still might have a firewire port on it, you'd have to do some searching on the web or with a magnifying glass looking at the little print on your motherboard to know for sure.

If your motherboard supports firewire you should be able to get one of the shield-and-cable thingys from a computer repair shop cheaply.
