I would like to buy a table football, but I have been told that it is illegal to have – even in your own house.

The explanation I have got, is that people will play for money or something like that. At the same time it is legal to play snooker – and at the snooker table money jumps from pocket to pocket – even when the police are there.

The town is Kuchinarai in Kalasin.

I think the people who told you that "table football" was illegal ,he/she may misunderstood.

The word "Table Football" in Thai is "Toh ball" (โต๊ะบอล) is a slang word of a gambling that your have to choose a team from a soccer match in TV (as European cup) for betting. Sometimes we call it as "Panan Toh Ball" พนัน(=gambling)โต๊ะบอล.

Next, there is a other gambling call "Ball dtoo" บอลตู้ which is a winning computer game and people bet for it.

On the other hand, your "table football" is a mini football game on a table.

It was my brother in law, and he knows the game very well - from visits at Phuket - so I am sure there is no misunderstanding about what game I was talking about.

I've seen some here at bars and restaurants, hadn't seen one in years.
