The Democrats Abroad organization in Thailand is hosting two events for Democrats to vote at polling stations in Bangkok. By hosting polling stations in Bangkok, the Democrats Abroad organization is simplifying the process of overseas voting. All you have to do is become a registered member with their organization, which you can do on the day of. By voting in the polls, your vote will be sent to the headquarters of Democrats Abroad in Switzerland to be cast. Therefore, you will be voting for the presidential primary with Democrats Abroad instead of within your state.

  • February 5 – 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. – The polling station will be open at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand (FCCT), Maneeya Plaza Building, Penthouse Floor, 518/5 Ploenchit Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330.
(A map is available on website at www.fccthai.com)

  • February 9 – 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – The polling station will be open at the Roadhouse Barbecue, 942/1 Rama IV Road, Surawong, Bangkok (corner of Rama IV and Surawong Roads), Second Floor.
(A map is available at www.roadhousebarbecue.com)

Peter Fischbach, Vice-Chair -- email: [email protected]

So why should you vote for President via our Global Primary rather than in your home state primary?

  • A large "turnout" of overseas voters will help focus attention on issues which primarily affect overseas citizens, such as inequalities in taxation, voting rights, ineligibility for Medicare benefits, etc.
  • Your vote will count alongside those of other members of Democrats Abroad towards the allocation of Democrats Abroad's 22 delegates to the Democratic National Convention. As such, your individual vote carries significantly more weight than a vote in a state primary or caucus
  • Given this year's early primary schedule, ballots requested from your home state may not arrive in time to complete and return
  • If your voting state votes by caucus and does not have a primary, you would have to fly home to participate in choosing the presidential nominee!

I don't think anyone was hurling insults, that's what the friendly little smilie is for :o

Do you have any information on voting in any other elections or for republican primaries? I know I'm applying for absentee voting for the 2008 presidential election.

Thanks for the info!

Now I have a ligit excuse for going to BKK, other than the sleazy shows and shopping.

To register for primary voting will I need any documentation? I don't want to get on any mailing llsts or e mailing lists.

Will probably attend the Feb 9 session at the roadhouse BBQ.

For the details, please email the two people listed in the announcement. Please understand that in order to vote in this global primary, you will be joining Democrats Abroad. If you have more questions about what that entails, those two people are the ones to ask.

Gosh, I had no idea that an emoticon wipes away the meaning of the sentence. I guess their satiric skills are too subtle for a simple person like me.

I don't have that information, but I invite you to search on Google. By all means vote!

touchy much? I'm closest to a libertarian and I know the libertarian party is essentially pointless, but I'm not about to care if someone says they have an opinion different than mine. It's just a political opinion, it's not personal.

Oh, I'll vote, not that it will matter. Ron Paul 08!

If you are on the other side of the political spectrum, you too vote while you are overseas. You don't need to contact either a special organization, or a certain website. I just completed my absentee ballot for the FL primary, and the US embassy will mail it for free.
