Go Go Bar In Issan?

A local Thai freind (guy) has returned from 8 years in Pattaya managing Bars and Restrurants... He has set up a decent Restruant and now wants to open a Go Go Bar for local Thai's.... He has a good location on a Soi with several other Bar's / Karoke places that seem to be very popular... I just wonder if the local Thai's would take to the Go Go Bar type of business, are there other such "sucessful" endeavors in Issan, and what the local police would think of the effort...

Hi Bushmill

The GG bar in Surin has 2 floors(top is called HardRock cos it plays that type of music and ground floor is called Sixties Coyote Bar,plays hip-hop-pop). Its located in the main (only) entertainment street,Soi Kola and this is a very central location.

As Bergan suggests, I'd be suprised if its very sucessful as I'v never seen more than a handful of customers at any one time. The Girls are nice though!!!!! :D:D

A list of a-go-go bars in Isaan struck me as an interesting piece of exotica (though perhaps not erotica!). You’ll know what I mean if you have visited one. I'm no expert but know of the following:

Ubon – PP bar. Just off Chayongkul Road Rating: Perhaps the best of a poor bunch but watch for over-charging.

Udon – Wolverine, Soi Aduladej. Rating: Dire – how long can it survive?

Surin – Hard Rock Café, Soi Kola – rating okay but pay by the hour for conversation

Khon Kaen - Nate Night A-Go-Go, Nate Nate Plaza – believed closed; last visited years ago when dire.

Buriram – None

Roi Et: None

Sisaket: None

Can anybody add to the list?

The water has been muddied a little by the appearance of coyote dancers in few bars, such as the ill-fated Scorpion bar in Udon. However, these are not really the same genre.

The Thai a-go-go ‘model’ is different than the Western one. There are usually just a small number of girls dancing at any one time, often just one. If you want to observe this kind of set up without traveling to Isaan visit the strip of bars on Intramura near Saphan Kwai in Bangkok.

Thanks for the response and the info... I was just curious regarding Thai Go Go Bars, as I have lived here in Issan / Kalasin for 5 years, and never seen one in operation... This Thai Guy seems nice and really a hard worker, but my wife's sister is considering "Investing" in the place, and I fear for her potential loss of Savings... But as we all have heard so often, "Up to Her"....

Thanks, again,

Pianoman, tell your sister-in-law not to invest. I have been to this bar many times, it is a sing-song bar and next door he has a small go-go bar. Before he opened the go-go bar he had five singers, he then brought in 4 more singers who along with one of the original five sang and then danced at the go-go bar back and forth, he also has one go-go only dancer, who I must say would be a superstar in just about any go-go bar. The place did quite well the first week, but since then the bar has lost girls and now has only 3 singers and one go-go dancer. The customers have dried up and the last couple of nights the go-go bar has not been opened and about two shows a night of go-go dancing to music that really is not conducive to dancing occurs at the sing-song bar. I go here and have a beer and read my book, it beats reading it by myself at home, but not by much. Perhaps there is potential if he could keep a decent amount of girls, but that costs money and the young Thai guys who went into the go-go bar I don’t think have any money to spend. Last night I saw two people leave the sing-song bar to go buy a bottle of Regency and then bring it back to drink, the bar can’t make any money that way. The manager seems nice enough, but his English is poor. Maybe what he is doing now will work, have a couple of shows a night at the sing-song bar and if there are a lot of customers move to the go-go bar, but he still needs more girls. Issangeorge.

MJ Majestic hotel in, of all places, Sakhon Nakhon, has opened quite a decent go-go bar called RAB.

Can hardly call that a farang bar as there are scarcely any farang in town, not that you wont be the centre of attention for 2 or 3 bikini-clad stunners when you sit down !

Last time I went to the "disco" under the Rimpao Hotel it had pretty much been turned into a Go Go bar.

Dancing girls on podiums etc.. scantily clad ladies... :D

Maybe you could pop in for research purposes..

Thanks Totster,... First and only time that I was in there was about 5 years ago and only stayed for about 2 minutes due to the volume levels... Oh, and the fact that there were only three other customers in the place when we went in...

I will try to stay up a little later than usual and stop in for a look see...

you issarn people are wild! the town cant support 2 gogo girls! no wonder they all go to bkk or wherever.

It isn't a case of not being able to support, it's more a case of privacy, i.e. we don't have any.

I once went into one of the local Kareoke bars, within five minutes I had an SMS message from wifey asking what I was doing in there. If a GoGo opened here, it would be a strict NoGo zone for farangs.

So right Thaddeus. I was in the Go-go Bar in Kalasin, or really the sisn-sing song bar next door and my wife's nephew came and sat next to me. My wife has never said anything to me, so maybe he has not told her yet. Issangeorge.

Not much has changed ...... still the same a couple of months back....... half a doz girls, 3 or 4 Thai guys, seating for about 100.

Perhaps that's what they wan't. They don't advertise, I'd been living here over a year, and visiting town most nights, before someone mentioned it in conversation. Perhaps it's part of the arrangement with PC Plod (If you don't broadcast the fact that you're there we won't trouble you !!).

There's also Full Moon, which has live music for an hour or two every night, and then girls dancing on small stages and on your table.

I think you might find more than 1 in Soi Cola in Surin. Walk around and you will see.

Mind You I think Speed 3 Disco in Soi Cola is more fun.
