This OUGHT to be easy - I hope? I'm a British citizen: I met Jariya over a year go in Thailand, and we've corresponded consistently since - and we've met again in Thailand, and she's been to visit me in Dubai. We've had an engagement ceremony in Thailand. I want to bring her to England to meet my family in May/June, for a two-week visit. We've no intention of settling in the UK - I live in Dubai, where I earn around £80,000pa. She's a qualified nurse, she works in a Government Health Centre in Northern Thailand, has never been anywhere near a bar, and has every reason to return to her family and small business in Thailand.

Am I missing something? Is there a problem lurking here that I haven't thought of?

I shouldn't think you'll have any problems, she needs a visitors visa

To apply she needs to demonstrate that

1) she has funds for the trip

2) there is suitable and sufficient accommodation for her in UK

3) She has a reason to return

That's all.

You sponsor her to cover the first two points and with a government job she should have the other point covered.

She applies at the UK Visa Application Centre where, apart from this forum you can get all the guidance you need and download the application forms.

Yes, as long as she can stay with your family and they can send evidence of renting/owning a home in the UK where she'll stay, I can't think there would be a problem.

The trip does need a purpose, but I think you've provided that: i.e. she wants to meet your family and see how the land lies.

Thanks guys! We're actually going for my nephew and my best freinds' weddings, so ther's a pretty good purpose too.

I took my wife (then girlfriend) to Uk in 2005. She too is a nurse and we tried to think of everything to take to the british embassy. "Letter from the hospital about job still open....letter from my family inviting her to stay at their home.....money in her bank....return tickets....much info about me too"....and also I was living over here already and owning my house. She was even registered in my house book.

But they still gave her a very hard time because she didnt take any photo's of us together as a couple.

Anyway she managed to persuade them and got a tourist visa for the trip.

I do suggest that you take many pics together in front of landmarks etc., really it will help.

good luck.
