New Year

Featured Replies

I was thinking....2008 is a new year just like eveyone was saying a few days ago...but....think back to last January and everyone was saying the 2007 was a new year...same as this year...so 2007 and 2008 are both new years.....but then...hey.......think way back to 2006 and back then in January they were saying that 2006 WAS A NEW YEAR TOO....same as 2007,,,,same as 2008. We have had three new years in a row. I think it must be pretty rare to have three new years in a row.

Let's look at probabilites...if the chances are 50/50 that a year will either be a new year or not then if we start in 2006 then there was a 50% chance that it would be a new year....but then in 2007 there was also a 50/50 chance so having 2007 coming in as a new year meant that having two years in a row that were new years should only happen 25% of the time.....and now with 2008 being a new year too with its 50/50 chance of being a new year gives us three years in a row of new years which is something that only has a 12.5% chance of happening!!!!......so just think...if next year (2009) should happen to be a new year too then we will have had four new years in a row which is something with a probability of happening of only 6.25%.....WOW....we live in interesting times.

:o:D Excellently put Chownah! :D

Don't you believe it. 2007 a New Year? Hah! It felt just like 2004 to me. I got a refund and I'm doing 2007 this year. Got a nice discount on it too, as it seems a lot of people got sucked into buying the 2008 model. Come December I'm going to ask for a test drive of 2009 to see if I want in or not.

With your reckoning Chownah, we're all still New Born Babies :o

Well it would explain why I wet the bed last night.

What a weird poster.

But, didn't we know that already.

Lasy years new year didn't include an extra day in February, like this new year :D .....err. I'll get my coat :o

This is just the sort of post I enjoy reading. It's nice to be back...
