September 8, 200421 yr Fortune Hotel: Intersection Asoke and Rama IX Roads, Dindaeng, Bangkok (Rama IX Subway Station) Overall Rating: Very Good Value: Excellent Convenience: Excellent ------------------ The Fortune Hotel is connected to the Fortune Town Shopping Center, making everything you need within a short walking distance. This includes a Lotus SuperCenter, a food court, and big IT/cell phone section. The location makes it an easy ride from the airport, with only a 30Baht expressway toll. Now that the subway is operational, the Fortune is extremely well positioned, with one subway exit rising to the hotel's entrance. The room I had was in good condition. The TV had real TV (in my opinion) to include CNN. The included breakfast was reasonable, although the earlier you arrive the better chance the serving plates will be stocked. The staff is very friendly. Security did not run any kind of embarassing checks on my Thai girlfriend. Depending on where you end up in room assignment, you might have a good view. I felt they treated me well even though I had a discount rate through a travel agency. Pros: - Location is hard to beat for easy public transportation. - Room was clean, furniture in good condition. - Cable TV included CNN and one premium movie channel. - Staff was friendly down to the last person. - Lots of air-conditioned shopping connected to hotel lobby. - Easy trip from Airport, but not expensive like Airport hotels. - Room service was quick and the Thai food good. Cons: - Late for breakfast? You might have fewer choices. - Check your breakfast vouchers when checking in. The clerk shorted me one day's breakfast. However the restaurant staff simply smiled and let me go in without a voucher once I gave them my room number. - Front of hotel is undergoing renovation, does not affect entrance. Summary: I'm giving such a good review with mixed emotions, because I know its a great value and with the opening of the subway, I think the room rate will increase. Hope this helps, kenk3z
September 8, 200421 yr Fortune Hotel: Intersection Asoke and Rama IX Roads, Dindaeng, Bangkok This might be an interesting place to try sometime as I have never stayed in that area of Bangkok. About how much are we talking for room rates?
September 8, 200421 yr Author Internet booking should be in the range of $36 with breakfast included. kenk3z
September 10, 200421 yr I don't know anything of this hotel. But I've had experience of hotels that have quite a few Chinese people staying, and can concur that they are a little on the exuberant/loud side for some peoples taste.
September 13, 200421 yr Author I'm back here again after returning from Chiang Mai, to rest before flying back home. Maybe its not all that busy now, but what I'm seeing other than farang is mostly Japanese at the moment in the restaurant at breakfast. The room and hall itself is dead quiet at night. I have to remind the GF she's not at home and can't blast the TV like everyone in her apartment seems to do. This is my choice for a transit hotel to or from the airport - pretty quick to get there and not expensive. But I'm pretty sure with the location (adjacent subway stop) demand will increase and the prices will too. Just an average room. kenk3z
October 3, 200421 yr With the new subway out front this has really moved up a notch on the list of places to stay in Bangkok. Nice medium class hotel, plenty of shops including the IT Mall which is only bettered by Pantip. Lots of other shops not too far away (Carrefour, Robinsons) and on the right side of town if you need to get to the airport quickly. Only two subway stops to Sukhumvit/ Asoke.
