I was up at Mukdahan a couple of weeks ago and stayed here http://www.thaihouseresort.com/index.html

It's not in town but about 45 mins. drive west on the road to Somdet, 5 kms. past Nong Song. Easy to find, when you get to Kham Phok look for the sign on the main road near the bus shelter, the resort is 200 mts. from the main road.

David and his wife Noy will take good care of you. I can thoroughly recommend this place.

Much better than the Ploy Palace! But if you've got to be in town then it's probably too far out.

There is a hotel called River Inn somewhere on the road leading to the tower in Mukdahan but I have never tried it!

Hope this might help?

Please enlighten me.

Raro says that he needs to be in Mukdahan for one night, logic would state that a hotel actually in the town would be preferable to one 45km outside it... no matter how nice Dave and Noy are (are you on commission?)

And what exactly is wrong with the Ploy that warrants an exclamation mark after the name? ... the rooms are good, the staff are friendly and the breakfast is Ok..... what's the problem?

Hey Thaddy.....please be easy on him! :o We're all on a commission on TV.... :D

But in fact, I have to be in town, so we will check out the Ploy.

Our customer wants to meet us at the Mutahar (or something like that....) hotel. What about that one?

thanks for all of your input, and yes Reimar, the VW van with coffee machine, fridge (much more importnatn than the coffee machine for some....) business class style reclining chairs and the big screen that comes up by pressing some button is for a whie on the wish list.

Nothing to offer just wanted to follow the thread. Had lunch one time there on a bike trip. Hopefully we will get back and explore the area more. Nice town nice people.

Never heard of that one..... Unless he means the Mukdahan Grand, quite nice if a little limited on facilities. That one is near the ferry station, one road back from the river.

I must admit I'm another one who thinks the Ploy Palace is okay, and that an evening exploring Mukdahan (and its choice of restaurants) is far preferable to being stuck in a resort. I can accept though that the breakfast is likely to be better in the resort :o

You might have left already, but the Muktara hotel is about 50 meters from the traffic light intersection as you come into town. That is if you were coming in from Ubon Ratchathani on highway 212. If you are coming from Ubon turn right at the traffic lights and heading towards the city centre it is 50 meters on your right. If your coming from the west then it is 50 meters on your right after going through the intersection. Coming from the north on 212 (Nakhon Phanom or Sakhon Nakon) go past tesco until you come to the next set of lights. Turn left and the hotel is 50 meters on your right.

Ploy hotel is ok. Grand is ok. Grands rooms are a bit newer. (both about 800-900 Baht a night) There are several other smaller and cheaper hotels that have either just been built or have been done up.

Hope this is of some help.

It seems that I did enlighten you but the post has mysteriously gone missing! Can someone enlighten me as to WHY? My post should have appeared before citizen33

Perhaps I trampled on someone else's feet!!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, raros first post did not say if he needed a hotel in town or in the province of Mukdahan!

I thought that maybe he was in the same predicament as I was, that is visiting his wifes or gf village but didn't want to stay there. In which case, this accommodation might have been just what he was looking for. So why jump down my throat for trying to be helpful! BTW I don't have any connection with this resort other than staying there for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoying it.

As for the Ploy Palace, last time I stayed there it didn't live up to the way you stated. ie. It wasn't friendly and the breakfast was rubbish. It was well worth driving for 30 mins. to somewhere I could feel comfortable! As it turns out the driving distance for me was slightly shorter than having to drive into town, but even if it was 45kms. it would have still been worth it!

So why Mr. Thaddeus did you jump on my case when all I'm trying to do is help someone? Maybe you're on commission at the Ploy? I doubt very much if they'll pay in cash, perhaps they'll give you a free breakfast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey you guys.....just relax! :D

Things turned out anyways completely different...we finished with the customer much earlier than expected (also because of the great roads there..we arrived much earlier than planned) and decided to drive further direction Pattaya and overnighted in Surin...stayed at the Majestic which is just great and had dinner at the Farang Connection which was very well received as well! :o

cheers
