Ive got a small 12 volt Dc powered cctv camera which ive connected to a small TV set to use as a monitor, ive now been given 3 more of the same cctv cameras .

Just looking around the IT mall’s I see a lot of cctv monitors show a split screen

View from 4 cctv cameras, Ive asked and the guy wanted ....15,000 baht .... for a ‘’box’’

That would show the 4 way split screen .

Any body know of a cheaper way to show a split screen on my small TV..?

Thanks

Can't do!

Cheaper alternative are automatic switches, one which shows a few seconds 1 camera and then moves to the next one.

The box the guy showed you is a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) which basically is a small computer, allowing you to record the images on a built in hard drive, and to use the 4 images from the 4 cameras to make them into 1 to show on a TV/monitor...

Hi :o

If your cameras are IP-cameras (with a LAN connection) you can do that easily - you just need a cheap LAN switch. BUT if the cam's are with a video output only, you need the equivalent of that "box" inside your computer too! It's a "video capture card", and last time i was looking for one of those (last year) they came pretty expensive too...... one with four inputs also cost around 10.000 Baht (shop on ground floor Panthip). It comes with software that allows to show the four cams simultaneously, stream over the internet and also record the video to your hard disk.

Those things get a lot cheaper when less inputs are used - a single input was below 1.000 Baht and one with two inputs was around 3.500.

Best regards.....

You can get cheap Chinese made ones for under 3000 Baht (4 inputs),

Even the Fujiko ones start from a bit over 5000 Baht for a 4 input version. Fujiko's seem to be re-branded geo visions....

Are they wired with Coax or cat 5? Usually the way we do it when we install on bigger jobs. We will run coax to a point then from there we would run a cat 5 back to the DVR's. This is of course if you have more than one camera.

Thanh,

how much do these IP-camers go for and where to buy in Bangkok ?

I am looking for a similar setup as the OP but would like to capture through the computer.

Thanks for your help,

Hi :o

I'll be perfectly honest with you - i don't really know. I have set up two of those at my office and know how it works, and i was sent looking for the "night vision" version (which cost around 3.000 Baht each in MBK) but i guess they cost between 2.000 to 3.000 Baht for the camera. They do come with power supply, so you need a wall outlet nearby....

Those are widely available in Panthip (not only in that shop on the ground floor) and as mentioned in MBK, there even the night vision version (that captures infrared). Just shop around.... setup is easy but you MUST use a network switch because each cam needs a fixed IP. You can stream the video over the internet (the software comes with the cam usually) and record nit to the computer, there is no additional hardware required (LAN cables, that's all).

Wireless LAN versions are available too! But no idea what they cost.

Best regards......

The 15,000 Baht solution is a unit that will take typically 4 wired CCTV video cameras and then records (on an internal HDD) one or more of the video feeds while displaying each video feed from each camera on a video monitor in a 1/4 window as you described.

It is possible to get a dedicated card for your computer that will allow you to monitor each feed, this link is for such a 4ch Camera PCI card.

There are software solutions that will allow you to record the video feeds as well - so your PC becomes one of the 15,000 Baht recorder units.

Go to a CCTV security shop and get sold a DVR unit, go to a computer shop and get sold a PCI card etc.

Some cheaper domestic TVs now allow picture in picture displays, you could probably display two such feeds on a TV given the typical 2 AV inputs provided on many these days. Add a simple AV switch unit from computer/CCTV suppliers and you might have a working solution, depends on your needs and budget.
