Need Help With Remote Desktop

Featured Replies

Heya, my home pc internet is setup through the apartment who uses a middle man company that probably uses True. When I logon I have to use a username and password for their company, not for true. Anyway, I can connect to remote desktop going out, but cant connect to my home pc from outside. I think all the comps in my building use the same ip address and this is the problem. When I try to connect to my home pc from my office I type in the ip address of my home pc, then type in user name and password. Then it tries to connect but gets an error saying "this computer cannot connect to the remot computer". Any ideas?

By the sounds of it you're most likely on a private network behind this 'third party's router so there is no way back into your machine from the outside world. If you have no access to the router that is providing your internet connection or cannot get whoever is admin'ing the router to forward a port for you I'd say you were out of luck.

Malcom is right you need a "port redirecting" so the traffic for your remote connection works. As you connection in no managed by you but by your condo you are in a tough luck, the only way though to do that would be using hamachi : https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp , you have to setup a connection (it's free) to hamachi for both your home and the computer at your company (if they allow it...) and it will allow you to access whatever you need on your computer.

Give it a try :o

Yes thanks, I looked up another thread and went with Hamachi before I saw this. HAMACHI ROCKS! I highly encourage people to use it, makes my 3 computers network across the net easily and fixed my remote desktop problems right away.
