Yes, and I certainly found her posts witty and often very clever.

Very witty. A gifted writer. Did she do any writing professionally, I wonder...

Yes, she is a professional writer and jounalist.

Thanks Tigs - I expect she's good at her job then.

She's well, although she has loads of personal problems at the mo. Her sister is seriously ill and it's causing a bit of internecine strife.

I'll email her to tell her bedlamites have been asking after her.

I miss JG also - she was witty and acerbic - she could be cutting as well and was banned as a result.

Just as an extra and not related to Jet. Many members ask why did <insert personal favourite's name here> do to be banned? Please be aware many posts are deleted before most members read them. They are warned in private and suspended without others even realising. You would be shocked at some of the posts made by some long standing members on the forum.

acerbic

Yeah that's one way of putting it.

I don't think I would be actually! :o

Me either, I'm not easily shocked/surprised/offended.

I don't think Bedlam would be big enough for Jet Gorgon and Kat.

I propose we get them both back for an invitational Bedlam celebrity ultimate fighting face off.

(think 'Raging Bull' meets 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre')

To the death. :D

:o

That would be top quality ThaiVisa entertainment.

George help us if they ever thought of joining forces for a tag team special.

We'd have to dust off and nuke Bedlam from space before their combined ego's created an improbabiltiy convulsion in the ThaiVisa continuum.

:D

Sorry just thinking out loud... where's me coat?

Don't get your coat, that's a great post!

So, two mods openly admit to missing her and it is apparent that a fair percentage of 47'ers feel the same way...... hhhmmmmm.

I wouldn't say a fair percentage... :o

It's a bit after the fact now anyway... My George I miss Chownah and I never thought that would happen.

Admin decision. Remember, they are the ultimate authority here.

What about CdnVic? His wife had a baby and that was the end of that. I get the feeling a few more poppa-to-be posters might fall by the wayside as their nights are interrupted with dirty nappies, feeding times and then, finally teething. Although I have to say that Boo has a done a tremendous job being both a Mom, a mod and working too. But she has a very sweet baby that seems actually pretty mellow (must take after Mr Boo :o).

Without going into the details. The process is quite simple. Every member has a certain number of warning levels - say 10 as an example. If they are given an unofficial warning there is no penalty and no increase in warning level. However if the situation warrants an official warning and all have some form of suspension the warning level rises by one increment. The suspension can be access (cannot get onto the board at all) or posting (can read and send pm but not write replies in the open forum). FYI there is an additional suspension for all of us here. Access to bedlam is a privilege (yeah really) because while the rules apply they are relaxed. People who cannot differentiate between relaxed and abandoned can have their access to Bedlam removed for a period of time or even permanently. Something to bear in mind.

If a member is warned up to the maximum number they are automatically banned. Every warning is recorded on the member's profile and available to the mods and admin for review. Every time a member is warned, the mod will post a message on our subforum advising other mods. This is to prevent the occasional situation (I did it once myself) where two or more mods jump on post and both add warnings for the same thing but not realise another had done it.

At the penultimate warning the member is explicitly told in writing that any further transgressions will result in their banning from the forum. If they do it again then with their final warning their account is suspended and referred to Admin for a decision to ban. The member can appeal to admin and if their case is sound a reprieve may be given. In fact any warning may be appealed by sending to admin. Admin will ask the mod who issued it to substantiate the reason and to consider reducing it back. Admin can also over ride a warning given out by a mod if they disagree with the reason for issuing it. This does happen on occasion but not commonly. The preference is for the moderator to reconsider the penalty and act accordingly. I have reduced a warning after a discussion with admin and another moderator who thought my penalty was excessive. I thought about it and agreed.

This has been written by moderators before but we do not get any personal gratification from banning or suspending people. We prefer that members moderate their own postings and not require such actions. However we have accepted a role that when required we will step in and take what actions we believe appropriate.

The second thing that must be understood by all members is that there are many posters with thousands of posts who have NEVER had one warning. Many more who have had one or two for doing something a bit silly on the spur of the moment but EVERY person banned has been as a result of their own actions.

regards

I must be dull - I've never had as musch as a warning! :o

ps this is another thread to become bedlamised, but in a different way. Check the opening page and see what I mean. :D

Not at all - the "I have just gotta go back to the office and check something on the com" excuse gets a lot of us "poppas" out of most of the nappy changing and bottle cleaning duties. :D

That leaves us "poppas" with the "holding baby in supermarket" duties, which we are more than happy to do because there is a never ending line of cute young ladies to flirt with who "just want to hold the baby because it is soooo cute". :o

Cheers. :D

You were one of many I was thinking about who have never been warned. You post a lot and have taken part in some pretty contentious issues particularly re religion but are able to keep a level head and make a considered reply even when baited.

Not about being boring - more about behaving like an adult.

I had been thinking the same a little way back but recent events created a situation where people were asking about particular members who are no longer with us. We have a couple of threads within bedlam with parallel themes - not unusual really in this place.

Purely out of personal interest - did you ever get a warning before taking on mod responsibilities CB? And how many mods have had a warning whilst actually being mods? Does anyone moderate the mods forum? Is there any decent arguments going on in there? Gossip you may wish to share? :D

I thought i had been officially warned and thought that making me a mod was a case of "better with us than agin us" :D Turns out I didn't have a single warning against my name - felt slightly disappointed when I found out.

There are several mods who were warned before becoming mods - one of my favourites is to a mod who will not be named. The warning reason reads "talking <deleted> again - 3 days suspension"

As a member we are expected to abide by the rules, as a mod we are required to abide by the rules. In the heat of the moment sometimes we overstep the line and one of the other mods will send a "I think you need to rethink your post that I have removed from view".

In the main the mods are an interesting collection of people. All care about the forum which is why they devote the time to it. There is a lot of back of house work done by mods and more so by admin that mambers do not see or care about.

And the first rule of mods - what happens in the mod forum stays in the mod forum - no discussion ever outside.

I'd had one warning before I was demoted to moddery - drunk in charge of the Report button :o

By the criteria mentioned/highlighted above....

CB, IJWT, Endure, why am I not a mod yet?

Go on, at least in bedlam?

Ppppppleeeeaaaase!

Yo CB, you're my mate you are! :o

I take offense at CB's earlier post. It is bad enough when Thai people kill or maim their slithery friends at will, without an Antipodean joining in the mayhem.

" Mambers " have feelings too you know .

Does that mean I can't tell them that you're the one who has to wear the pointy hat?

They already know that - matches my pointy head :o
