Double Network Connection Icons

Featured Replies

Since True installed cable modem here, I am a bit confused. The "flashing light-blue computers" icon down in the right hand corner of the screen has now multiplied itself into two. The installer made a separate remote connection for True, but the networking icon is also on and receives a signal, although it appears to differ slightly from the other.

Do I really need both of these connections active at the same time or could I remove one somehow, and if so, how?

Cheers,

Meadish

Is the second icon not for your Local Area Connection

I have been trying to get rid of that icon for a month

it's normal. One for the local area connection (network)

one for the ppoe connection (adsl modem)

same device but a seperate protocol for adsl.

You have the same effect when you use a vpn adapter.

right click on the icon and select disable. (if you don't use a network).

If it keeps comming back after you reboot go to.....

start>>settings>>control panel>>system

Click the hardware tab then select device manager.

Find your lan card in the list and open the properties.

Select do not use this device (disable).

Not sure but it may take more than that. I have no LAN card but since install of SP2 have a second icon with error that can not be corrected so it sits there with exclamation mark on it. I tried to disable the local area connection but that also disables the ADSL USB modem. For now I have learned to live with it. As everything is working not going to remove/install with no great faith that it would improve things. Don't always have the best of luck with computers. :o
