Have You Caught The Podcast Bug Yet?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Over the last six months or so I have started to really become addicted to podcasts.

I subscribe to about six already and these cover lots of my interests; Buddhism, teaching, writing and podiobooks.

Has anyone else caught the podcast bug?

Is there any you would recommend?

Most certainly have - a few years now and I listen more to Podcasts on my iPod than I do music. It keeps me well up to date with happenings in the UK

My mix is quite eclectic from UK and USA news programmes to Chris Moyles and then economic and business such as the HBR, econtalk, etc.

Jonathon Ross is OK

For Football I really like the 606 phone in and BBC has other good sporting programmes

BBC Start the Week from Radio 4 and the Friday night comedy fro the same channel

For American comedy I like Bill Mahr

If you are into IT and technology generally TWIT (This Week in Tech) and it stable other other pc's is good as is CrankyGeeks

For education there are some excellent free resources from Harvard, Sloan etc

Hi guys,

I doubt that I have ever heard/seen a podcast. Dumb question>> Are they audio or video?

What is it that you find more appealing about them than reading text and looking a photos. I suppose being able to do something else at the same time is one answer. If they are video I can see the answer. Pun slightly intended. :o

Hi

They are both audio and video.

I only use the audio as my iPods are older versions

I am waiting for the iPod Touch to get to 32 Gb and then I might upgrade and will watch video podcasts too.

Download iTunes to your PC, got to the iTunes shop and download some podcasts for free onto your PC and play them.

The photoshop podcasts i use are videos showing step by step instructions on how to "play" with photographs. For me it's the easiest way to learn something and you can watch again and again until you know what you are doing. Almost idiot proof!

I have 36 subscriptions, Radio National Australia have some really excellent programs, all podcast.

I have just subscribed to "http://www.podiobooks.com/index.php" as suggested and I am looking forward to some decent books.

I use a MP3/4 player, I bought a really good set of earphones (Phillips) and I can walk and listen at the same time, anything to keep the brain ticking over!!

I caught the podcast bug about a year ago. Listen to it while riding the stationery bicycle. Thanks for all the great links on here (especially book and Thai-language learning links).

I'd like to contribute National Public Radio podcasts of the "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" weekly humorous digest of the news (for Americans). It's hilarious and yet keeps you abreast of the main national news stories each week. Obtainable free through iTunes store. A one-hour broadcast. Perfect for the daily work-out!

I have about 15 pod casts I listen regularly , most from the BBC.

Favourites are Jonathan Ross and Friday Night quiz.

I generally listen to them when I am alone in the car.

I'd love to listen to them whilst on the running machine but the Apple earphone plug thingies will not stay in my ears, they seem to be too big for my delicately shaped ears. Any advice, I like the ear plug design idea.

Cheers

Been there, tried that, for about 15 years. The only design that'll stay in place are the ear-muff type earphones that either clamp over the top of the ears or headband which clamps over the top of the head. Sony sells a decent model of the first type for about 600 baht.

I've tried them , and they are comfortable , but when they have been soaked in sweat it takes a brave man to put them back on the next day!

Oh, if you sweat, you're definitely working out too hard! :o

Actually, the ones I use are hard plastic and metal...no absorbing surfaces. The 1.5"-diameter earphone fits over the ear rather in it, attached to a band that hooks over the ear and then around the back of the head. Brand: Altec-Lansing. About 600 baht. Got it at a mp3 accessory shop in Ubon Ratchathani.

love the podcasts. listen to them in the car all the time on my daily commute.

Besides TWIT some of my favorites include

Buzz out loud bol.cnet.com - Daily Tech news podcast with good humor and great hosts

NPR's Car Talk cartalk.com about, you guessed it cars, but the hosts are great!

Diggnation - diggnation.com - Covers some of the hottest submitted stories on the social news networking site digg.com, I started out on the audio (mp3) version and then moved up to the Video podcast version (quicktime small)

Realtime with Bill Maher - Political/humor podcast from the HBO original series Real time with Bill Maher (good if you follow/are into US politics or good for a laugh and the lively debate)

All of the aboved mentioned podcasts are availabe for free over iTunes or at their respective sites.
