Alternative Internet Connections

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the wireless 'pay as you go' internet connection cards. Namely the start up kit cards that you can purchase from 7/11 and family Mart. They seem to be quite cheap (in most cases cheaper than TOT ADSL plans)

excuse my somewhat naive question here but can anyone please advice if anyone can connect to the internet using these cards if they simply have an wireless enabled PC? or do you also need to purchase a sperate modem?

And what's the connection speed like? also which brand would be recommended in the Nanai 2 road area in Patong, Phuket

Cheers

Yes it is quite inexpensive and easy.

If your [GPRS/EDGE enabled] phone and laptop are Bluetooth [bT] enabled either internally or with a USB BT dongle, all you need is a 100baht GPRS/EDGE card [recommend DTAC]. Mine is good for 50 hours of connection with no cutoff date.

You first connect with your phone to the data network using the serial number on the card.

Then in your computer connect to the BT service 'dialup networking' and it should dial the *99# that will have your phone connect to DTAC data services.

I just watched the Superbowl play by play at work this way since our WiFi does not work outside the teacher room. I connected in class and could see progress every few minutes.

Go Giants !!

Cheers
