Can anyone tell me about Nong Khai Hospital? How does it rate with other hospitals in Issan?

Adequate seems to about the concensus.

My sister in law got some sort of liver infection. They stabilised her but decided she could get better treatment in Udon so moved her there. In Udon they packed her off to Khon Kean to a specialist where she recovered.

On the other hand a neice (actually her daughter, not a good year!) broke her ankle in a motorcycle accident and got perfectly adequate treatment in Nong Khai.

Having heard of others experience, I guess that is about it. Decent general hospital treatment and they can deal with the common ailments and accidents. Anything complicated or requiring specialists and you need to look elsewhere.

I have good experiences with Wattana hospital Nongkhai. There is another one, called Luang Paet. I don't like it that they never tell you what you have and also give you medication without giving you the names (or concentration). All you get is a plastic bag with colourful pills.

I to have had some good experiences at the Wattana hospital.

I Recently spent some time nursing a sick father-in-law at the Nongkhai hospital as well, and the conditions and treatment in the public wards were terrible. You do not want to be on those wards. We moved him to a private room in the end where we had some privacy. The treatment was no better. I can go into details if you really want to know.

Because of his age and illness, we moved him back home as it was his wish and it made no difference as to whether he stayed in hospital or at home. He saw his last days at home with the family.

Not far to Udon both AEk and Palo offer good service. Having tried both I have to admit I lean more to AEK.

I think it really depends on what you need to have done

Sorry, edit does not work. I am not sure about the name of the second one, could be Ruam Paet, too. It is on a small soi to your right when you drive from downtown to the central bus station.
