I am having problems with windows xp recognising that gps unit or the garmin card reader. No matter how many times i reinstall either the original software or the updated version from then garmin site it will not recognise either of them which makes updating the maps a tad difficult!!

I have tried on two different machines (both running xp) with no luck at all.

I was wondering if anyone on here has a this unit that is happily working with xp?

thanks

I have two Garmin units and they both communicate fine with my laptop and desktop both using Windows XP Pro. You need the Garmin program called Map Source and a data cable. If you are talking about an ESRI Thailand map, that map cannot be used on a computer period. The US map that came with my units can be used on a computer but as far as I know the only updates are to the GPS software and NOT for any maps.

Its all sorted now :o

I do have the garmin mapsource and original maps - having tried it on a 3rd PC running XP it all installed and ran with no problem at all

Seems that there was problems with the registry files on both the laptop and the pc - both of whihc have now been cleaned and its all working :D

On a seperate note have just bouhgt the Rotweiler maps and they look to be pretty good as well as almost a 5th of the price of the ESRI ones ........

I went with the Rotweiler maps when ESRI wanted 12,000 baht for their map. I used those Rotweiler maps but my Street Pilot 2610 had many glitches. Usable but I couldn't really trust it besides getting aggravated. The ESRI map now costs 7,000 baht so I had it installed in the 2610. I'm happy to say that it works flawlessly. My eTrex works better than the 2610 with Rotweiler maps but still has some routing problems. The Rotweiler maps were still worth the money because I am able to use them on my computer and transfer waypoints and routes to my units in addition to having Laos, Cambodia and a number of other maps at no charge. I'm waiting for the next Rotweiler update to see if they have worked out some of the bugs.
