Not a particularly inspired shot but appropriate to what I had in mind i.e. first attempt at split toning which has always been a bit of a mystery to me.

Not sure if I've "twigged" it yet so seeking your opinions

So I have downloaded both and opened in PS on my calibrated moniter, flicked it over to sRGB

And, well my understanding of split toning is toning one colour in the highlights and one in the shadows. Am I right?.

All I see, is a destaturated looking picture on the right, and the histogram looks more or less like that too.

Its possibly to do with uploading it. Try it on something with more definate highlights and shadows, overdo it on your original, and then save for web?

Unless of course split toning means something else and I am talking complete a**e

Yep, you're right Yorkman, it doesn't really look much more than a de-saturated version.

What I've been playing with is the split toning section in Lightroom to create, well something different I guess.

Maybe back to the drawing board!

I have a good calibrated monitor and I cannot see how the split tones are working - it looks more like a colour cast has been changed.

Mind you there seems to be more detail in the second inage in the darker area

I view my images through the Safari 3 web browser and there's a considerable difference in the two images.

What I'm after is that "pseudo-monotone" effect we got in the "old film" days with selenium toning, but whereas this effect was almost exclusively applied to B+W I'm trying to create it in colour as well.

However, I accept and agree that currently I've achieved sod all!
