Source Of 6 Metre Length Aluminium Tubing

Featured Replies

I want to build a new antenna for my amateur radio station here in Phuket. What I need to buy are two 6-metre lengths of aluminium tubing, about 1 inch diameter.

Most shops that I try only sell extremely heavy steel tubing, not aluminium.

Any suggestions? The tubing must be 6 metres in length.

thanks!

Simon

Try a scrapyard

There are 2 of em on the Thepkrasattri Rd. Comeing from the Heroines Monument to Phuket town.

Ted.

I would try Phuket Glass & Aluminum shop on Choafa road East.

It has a fairly big warehouse that i've been in. They have a lot of different shapes and sizes.

It is on a small hill, about 200 metres West of the cutoff to the zoo. And on the southern side of Choafa East road.

Hi, thanks for all the suggestions. I bought some tubing from Chalong aluminium and glass. The choice was limited, but I spent about 400 baht and was able to build an antenna that got me talking to radio amateurs in Guam, Malaysia, India, Indonesia etc.

I actually have the only shortwave transmitter in Phuket. When the tsunami hit in December 2004, initial communication was only possible using amateur radio, because the mobile networks were completely congested. (I wasn't the radio amateur... it was an Italian guy who has since left the island). But it's important for me to ensure that my little rig is working ok at all times . . . just in case!
