Visit the spectacular temple and check out each of the nine floors (inside and out).

Walk (or run) around the lake.

Stay in a village and recharge your physical and spiritual self!

Just to add to mickj88's info - yes the turnoff is 20 to 30 kms from KK then a further 20kms to the dam. Just before the entrance to the Dam/Army Camp/Golf course you can see a massive white Budda up a small mountain on your left you can drive to the top which gives great views and photo opportunities also inside the white budda is a temple.

Back down the mountain turn left and enter the Army camp they will automatically give you a pass (no charge) you drive through some very nice surrounds and can park up near the dam wall - from here you can walk the dam wall (wear a hat)-(umbrella for the lady) - a nice restaurant overlook the damm or you can go down into the park area where for a small fee rent a mat to sit on and have something to eat from the many vendors that are established there or bring your own.

Just check your map before planning to drive around the lake(??) and if the floating karoke type eateries are not there maybe they have moved to Kanchanaburi ???.

All in all a good day out can be had - also you can turn left at the small township of Ubolrat and about 5 to 10 kms you will find swimming and dam/lakeside bamboo huts for shade no charge and foods & beverages can be purchased.

Quiz nites - Tuesday Cheap Charlies (free snacks) Thursdays @ Leos Little Dunk a proper gentleman in his own right provides free pencil and paper and free paper in the loo (most times).

Oasis Shopping Centre 10 pin Bowling

After Golf at the Army Camp Course Khon Kaen relax at Sabai Sabai recently opened by Zinny and Welsh/Oz Billy enjoy karoke, pool and free entertainment from Cornish Steve on Frid/Sat/Sun night - just depends upon when his lovely wife lets him out.

If that way inclined, an energetic evening can be had at the No1 bar which often features a resident pugilist(sic) who is willing to accomodate visitors, residents and the gaffer Great after entertainment menu.

Sightseeng at night there is a beautiful new chinese temple in the city just after you enter the KK proper vis the Archway.

I am thinking about staying at Orchid in a few weeks. They list family room (one big and one small bed for a kid) for 650 baht. Photos look nice but location may not be the best. Would appreciate any input as I usually stay at Bussarakham Hotel which is 900 baht but a great place with a very good buffet breakfast included.
